My Z breaks down all the time and its gotten to the point where I just dony want to fix it anymore, so check this out....

Im thinking about ripping the T56 out and throwing it in my 70SWB. My trucks a factory three-on-tree (now a TH350) and I still have the clutch pedal. I was wondering if theres a way to use the factory clutch pedal with the Camaros hydraulic style system?

Just keep in mind those tranny can't take the abuse too good, I'm going on the 2nd tranny behind a very healthy 350 in my sonoma in 2 years, but is sure fun driving it!

T56's are advertised at taking up to 400 ft/lbs of torque. I think you're biggest issue will be the speedometer, but if you do a google search for t56 conversion, you will find all the info you need.

Hey I put one in My 74 Nova. All I did was change around my crossmember, and fit it to my old aluminum bell housing. So I could use my old clutch linkage. I believe I had to have my drive line shortened. But it has been awhile ago since I done that. I ended up ripping it out and i put an auto back in. But it was fun while I had it in there.

I think people are confusing T5's and T56's in this thread. A T5 is from the 82-92 Camaros -- T56's are the 6 speed trans from 93 and up camaros, corvettes, dodge vipers, etc, and require some work to drop in an older chevy.

Good luck! I'm in the process of setting up a T56. Almost have the bracket done (see page 7 of the ls1tech thread in my signature). Just sending it off for fabbing once I draw it up in autocad....

No, its the LT1.....Im not to up to par with the 3rd gens but I think the TPIs are 85-92, The LT1s are (92 Vette)93-97 4th gens...then 98-02 its the LS1.

i think you need an adapter plate to mount the t-56 to a gen I sbc bellhousing. measure the input shaft. i think the t-56 is longer. the LT1 t56 is supposedly easier to use with a gen I because of the clutch. check out some of the camaro message boards. it's kinda common to retrofit a t-56 into a 3rd gen. good luck. i've forgotten a lot about this swap.

Hmmm, I think I might of forgotten to mention....but my Camaro Im ripping this out of is a 95 LT1(now LT4) powered Z28.

LT1 T56's will bolt up to any Gen I or Gen II SB Chevy. LSx T56's require an adapter plate.

I doubt it'll work on anything non-gen II.

Unlike conventional FI set ups, it uses a cam sync/crank trigger in the form of a peice of **** called an "Optispark" to tell the injectors when to open.

So unless you want the whole motor....or have the know how to rig up the MSD crank trigger to make.....I dont think the fuel injection stuff will do you any good.

Yes, but you can't run a 454 with the Centerforce flywheel because it's externally balanced. Largest you can run is 427 (internal balance). Centerforce part number is 700107.
