Anyone know if chevy tailgates always had white lettering? My 72 has been painted before and the letters are body color, just wondering if that was stock on any trucks.

All were painted white except on white trucks. The letters on them were black.

They also have the decals in chrome as well

Paint them in, Last a heck of alot longer than vinyl decal stickers. Takes about as long to do either and make them look right. IMO.

My K10 had green letters when I got it. The truck is 2 toned green and white and the letters matched the body. There is another 2wd truck on here that is 2 toned blue and white with the letters done in blue. The 2wd is a one owner truck but I'm sure it has been repainted. I have no idea if either of these are original but I thought they looked pretty good that way.

I thought trucks that had the two tone paint, with the white in the middle, AND didn't have the woodgrain tailgate band had body color letters, like see ten said.

I don't know if it is because it was a step, but my tailgate letters were body color and it was the original paint.

We were talking about the decals that came on the letters from the factory.
