Another header thread...
These look like the same ones others on here are running, but I wanted to get an opinion before purchase. They list them as Camaro/Chevelle/Nova.
Those are the same wire looms I just bought, I only hope my engine looks this good some day. |

Re: Another header thread...
Those headers will not work. I just tried to put my motor in with them on and no way no how. The pass side fits with about a 1/16" clearance above the motor mount. The driver side is about a 1" from fitting, hits the motor mount. I really wanted to run these because of the length and the look, but it an't gonna happen

Re: Another header thread...
I also bought a set of the Heddman Chevelle headers and after a quick test fit realized they were not going to fit around the engine mounts. I did some research looking for a header with a 1-5/8" primary and found a set of Edelbrock headers that are built for a truck.
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku I did a quick test fit and the only problem I can see is the oxygen sensor plug interferes with the frame by about a 1/2" on the driver's side. It will be closed off anyway so I plan to "tweak" the frame a bit to make them fit. The passenger side fits like a glove. I am also real happy with the finish. I found the heddmans a little flat looking. The Edelbrock finish has much more of a shine to it. I will let you know once I get the cab off and truly fit the headers on the engine.

Re: Another header thread...
Got my cab off today...
Continued to properly test fit my driver's side header... ground off the rivets and removed the linkage bracket from the frame which I don't need anymore. With the bracket out of the way, I was planning to notch out the frame to fit the oxygen sensor plug on the side of the header. After looking at it closer, I would have to remove about an inch out of the frame right above the shock mount. This is way too much for my liking. Well.. Back to the drawing board. Too bad, they are real nice looking headers. Shane, What part number are your headers? I tried a set of Hedman 68608's for a Chevelle and they interfered with the motor mounts. I may still try another set of Edelbrock's. There is another version that has a tube coming out the back of the header for the o2 sensor. It is in a fairly inconspicuous place so I should be able to cut and close this off without making too much of a mess of things. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Another header thread...
DynoMax from Jeg's ... purchased a few years ago so I am unsure of the part number. I searched Jeg's website but did not see them listed now.
If I can track down some paper work, I will post the part number. |

Re: Another header thread...
I found these today and they say there are for a 88-95 trucks so they have the o2 bung, but from the pics it looks like the bung is facing up and should not interfere with the frame rails. It also looks like I will not have trouble with the motor mounts being in the way either, what do you guys think??

Re: Another header thread...
If you look at the pic at the top of this thread, you will see the same exact motor, with what looks to be the same exact headers, only difference i see is that the set you posted has an O2 bung.

Re: Another header thread...
The Dynomax fit because they have small 1 1/2" primary tubes. If you like the look of them Early Classics Ent sells some that are built to fit our trucks. Sanderson Makes them.
I am using "North West Auto Fab" motor mounts and the chevelle shorty headders.

Re: Another header thread...
So would the 88-95 headers work as long as I plug the "bung"? I thought there was a head difference on the somewhat newer motors, so they wouldn't bolt up? The ad says it works with both types of plugs.
Those are from the same seller and I have had good dealings with them so far, so I would buy from them again for sure. |

Re: Another header thread...
Jimmy, I looked at the pic again and the heads that are on the motor pictured are the old style, non-center bolt, so I would assume they would work for our application. They are closed for the holiday, but I will try again tomorrow to get the needed info and I will post what I find out.

If possible, my setup will only be about 4' of pipe and muffler after the headers, then dump down like on a muscle car. I want to keep it above the frame and the ones on there now hang down quite a bit. |
