Radiator Hose Question

I opened the hood of my '78 Silverado and noticed that the radiator hose was sucked down to almost flat. The engine had only been running a moment or two so I slowly opened the radiator cap. Air filled the hose and it went back to normal.

I have checked several times since and it has not done it again that I am aware of.

Any ideas what that is all about?

Thanks,

Bubba

Re: Radiator Hose Question

Replace the radiator cap, that will fix the problem. Its not letting the fluid from the overflow resivoir back into the radiator for some reason.

Re: Radiator Hose Question

Just a thought. After you replace the radiator cap; keep an eye on the coolant level and see if it stays at the right level. If it keeps going down and when you open the radiator cap, you notice that the level seems to go have gone away misteriously---look at a possible head gasket problem. I had this once and it is a relatively common Chevy thing on their motors.
