intake finish? ideas?
need some help here. i cant get it in my head on what to do with the edelbrock performer intake. my 68 c-10 is maintaining the factory light yellow paint. the frame is a light silver. inner fenders firewall core support under hood all light yellow. block and heads chevy orange. all engine brackets, valve covers, air cleaner, pulleys are light yellow. i have never had clear coat hold up on a intake. so powder coat? what color? chevy orange paint? light yellow? that one seems wrong unless the whole engine was yellow. so please throw some ideas or pics at me. thanks, pkj

Re: intake finish? ideas?
Do not powder coat it clear because it will eventually dull and look like sh!t. In my opinion the aluminum needs to breath to keep it looking nice if you want the aluminum look.

Re: intake finish? ideas?

Re: intake finish? ideas?
I Gunk the engine ocasionally and use carburator cleaner on the intake at the same time. It keeps it looking decent. Alot better than it does when clear is put on it. When it is clear coated all the discoloration comes from underneath and there is no way to clean it.

Your local parts store will have some rattle can paint from Dupli-Color called Cast Coat Aluminum. It has some ceramic in it, so it holds up very well against the elements. It has a nice satin finish that's almost the same color as the original cast finish of your intake. I'll try to post pics of mine later.

Re: intake finish? ideas?
okay so the majority so far say silver finish for a good look. i like the idea of painting it rather then maintaining the raw finish. what about just using base coat, clear coat? i can dead on match my frame and other odds and ends. need all the ideas or opinions i can get. thanks, pkj

I guess I've never had one more than about 4 years though, so maybe after that it starts to look bad. I have also used aluminum color powder before and that looks great. I also have a silver metal flake that has a slight texture to it and it is also very nice. The best look I've done/seen is a nickel metal flake clear powder, that looks incredible. |
