1969 Oil Filter question...cartridge type..

I have a 1969/350 with the oil filter that bolts in. I was reading in another thread about an adapter for engines that have the bolt in oil filter not the Twist-in oil filters. I have looked around and haven't found this adapter. Any help?

***ok i found a post saying NAPA has them***
***off i go***

I bought my adapter from LMC. It is probably the same as the MR Gasket one.

1969 blocks should've had a spin on oil filter from the factory. You might have an older block.

My 69 also has the cartridge type. Napa and all the auto parts places state that they were on the 69. Wonder is early runs of the 69's have cartridge type the 68 blocks left over from that year.

I purchased a late 1969 c/20 w/350 new in 1969. It had a cartridge type filter from the factory.

Re: 1969 Oil Filter question...cartridge type..

My 68 327 had the cannister type filter originally and still would if the original oil pressure bypass haden't been cracked. I found a spin-on conversion kit at the dealership. The price wasn't too bad at the time.

I think 67 and earlier SB engines had smaller bolt holes to hold the oil pressure bypass assemblies on with. My 68 327 had the harder-to-find larger bolt holes.

I've heard that the cannister filters are better. Wern't they installed into the 1970's on severe-duty cars like police cars, taxies and such?

The engine that was in my GMC when I got it was a 350, and it had the cartridge type filter. I figured mine was a leftover, but then I found out my engine is actually from a '74 school bus chassis, so I guess the bigger trucks kept the cartridge. Mine took a Napa 1143.
