Need help with tilt column
Ok i'm doing a body swap on a 87 K30. To make things harder the body I'm using is from a manual trans truck while the K30 is a turbo 400. Neither one originally had the tilt column.
Now my electrical questions: 1st Where does the black wire coming from the turn signal/wiper/delay wiper lever hook up to? Neither truck had the delay wiper option before. 2nd I'm assuming I will have to change out the fuse boxe and wires since one truck was a 4 speed and now will be an auto. I'm looking for the wires the go to the neutral/reverse switch at the base of the column. I think I found the neutral wires on the 4 speed body but not the orange/black wire for the other one. Not even mentioning the fun part cutting holes in the roof for the 1 ton cargo lights......lol I'm wanting to get this thing together so I can actually start this new 572.... |

Re: Need help with tilt column
Dean-
I not totally sure, but I'm guessing the black wire from the wiper/directional switches is a ground and should be spiced with the other black wires running to the Bus Bar Ground. I'm not so sure whether or not you have to swap out the fuse box. The wiring for the backup switch may be dark blue and light green?. ...572

Re: Need help with tilt column
I found a dark blue and light green wires because they used to go to the four speed sensor, but I haven't found the orange with black stripe and black with white stripe that are also together and go to the switch. Probably have to switch them to get it all straight.
You are probably right about that black wire being ground. Thanks |

Re: Need help with tilt column
Well I did go ahead and switch the who electrical harness between the trucks. That works much better except the 87 had a lot of computer plugs which I'm sure aren't needed for what i'm doing anyway.
Still wondering about the one black wire the turn signal/wiper lever. I agree it is most likely a black ground but where does it hook up to? It has a strange male fitting on the end. |

Re: Need help with tilt column
Does the column have a cruise control switch? Cruise normally hase an extra wire with an odd connector.

Re: Need help with tilt column
The tilt does not have cruise control. This wire comes out of the turn signal/delay wiper switch on the left side. My two previous trucks i'm using did not have tilt or delay wipers so I'm not sure where this wire goes. I guess it is a ground but it is a different wire end. Any ideas?

Re: Need help with tilt column
I don't know what it controls, but that is the only wire/connector coming out of my stalk on my '86 with cruise and delay wipers. It plugged in somewhere near the bottom of the column. I wish I could remember more, but that was a couple of years ago.

Re: Need help with tilt column
Did you ever figure out what the flat black wire was far? I have the same question. Im using the 86 column in a 64 restorod and cant figure it out either.
