Dash Pads..What's your take?

The dash is cracked. What a surprise after 21 years. The interior is in rather good shape.

Should I use a reproduction or find an oem NOS? If aftermarket who has the best or are they all the same?

I ordered one from a local hot-rod shop that specializes in Pickups. I'll post picks and let you know what manufacturer it's from when it arrives next week.

If you want a perfect fit and color match check out having dash restored by Just Dashes. Used them on 77 with excellent results.

We have folks on this board that support the board that can help you. They sell new ones.

Re: Dash Pads..What's your take?

The last time I checked, the dash pad was still available from the dealer. Folks on here have said it is available only in black, and has to be dyed to the right color. My dealer just says that I can't choose a color. They told me that it could be anything, and I have to take whatever they get.

With the aftermarket one, you can order the color you want, but I have seen complaints about the way they fit compared to factory pads.

My truck really needs one, but I haven't bought one yet. The dashpad is purely a cosmetic item, and there always seems to be something more imprtant that it needs.

Re: Dash Pads..What's your take?

Reviving this one from the dead. I'm looking for a replacement for my '85 and though I would love to find a good used one, they seem to be as rare as hen's teeth. The best price that I have found on a new aftermarket is Classic Industries for $189 in any color. They also have GM replacements for $369, and "OEM" replacements for $239. I assume that the OEMs aren't GM, but not sure. Anyone know? Has anyone bought one from them? Is Direct Dashes the only company that makes and supplies aftermarket dash pads? I'm new to the 81 & up seen, who all are board vendors for these trucks?

Re: Dash Pads..What's your take?

Contact Chris Lucas (Captkaos), he sells dash pads for our trucks.

If I were you, I would check on eBay for an 81 up pad, I see NOS GM pads on there ALL the time...they usually got for about $200-$250...which is the same price as the aftermarket with twice the quality and much better fit.

Re: Dash Pads..What's your take?

About 3 yrs ago I bought all new interior parts from LMC Truck for my 86 K30. This included a plastic dash cover which glued on over the existing dash pad. It took some fitting to get it right, but for only $100 it looked good and to the untrained eye it looks original. Of course my pickup is a daily driver, not a show truck.

All the interior parts I bought from LMC have held up well including seat cover, door panels, and heavy duty floor mat.
