Question on a tilt column - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I got this tilt column last week and noticed the arm for the shift linkage is offset, all the other ones I have seen are straight. Does this look familiar to anyone?

I think the truck ones are straight. Looks like a van tilt to me. The plug in looks later also. Maybe someone who knows for sure can varify... Eric

no, that's not a van, the shaft is too short. Vans had a straight shifter arm too. Maybe a RV or something?
it really shouldn't matter, there's enough room for movement, you should be able to just hook it up and forget it.

Wrong harness connector, and shift arm should be straight. But, the harness is an easy fix and the shift arm will probably work. Tilt RULES!

GM made/sold steering columns for Motor Homes, RV's, Industrial stuff---and I have seen many variations in both the harness, overall length, and shifter arms. You can adjust your lower steering column shaft length for just about any column and a harness adapter will allow for connection from/to any straight harness hookup. You should be good to go just make sure that your neutral safety switch location will work with your dash---most van's and some RV's require this to be relocated.

Thanks guys, I knew it wasn't a van column and I have the harness adapter, my main concern was the offset arm. I knew someone on here would have an answer for me!

The lettering on the PRNDLL is newer than 72. The shift lever is not P/U style but looks like a van.

The offset arm might work just fine by reversing the mounting of the rod retaining stud.
