68 side marker lights. no harness

Hi guys, I was going through my 68 3/4 ton checking all the light to make sure they all worked. None of the side marker lights worked so I opened one up to check the lamp and low and behold no wireing harness for the side marker lights. There wasn't even a place to plug the lamp into the lens. All I have is reflectors. I thought that the 68 models had side marker lights required by the federal laws at that time. Has anyone else ran across this before with their 68?

Yup, some didn't have the lights, only refelctors. Others, like my friend's '68 that he bought new has lights in all his side markers. I've heard of some '69s that didn't have lights, too, but never saw one.

You can check your drivers side door jamb for the sticker...might need to scrape off some paint.
Shy of that, you can search for the build sheet.

68 Custom, sorry made a little typo error. My truck was purchased in January according to the papers. Wouldnt mind knowing myself exactly what day and month it was built.

longhornmail, is their normally a general area where the build sheet may be, if at all. I know in cars it can be anywhere, but theres only so many places to put it in a truck. Has anyone found theirs??

Talking

Thats alright, i know mine was first purchased in June of 68.... only because i sent away to the capitol for the trucks history. As for the sticker and build sheet, they are gone for sure. Any way to get a new build sheet for this thing?

The build sheet is normally in the seat shoved into the springs, but they have been found under the carpet, and behinde the fuel tank too.
I think the only build sheets, are the ones in the truck.

Looking at my 68 reto pack, It appears that only 68's with factory stake beds or perhaps cab only came with side marker lights. I don't think it was an option as such.

Neither my current '69 or previous '69 had lights, only reflectors. Back in high school I had a 70 C-20 that had reflectors as well.

I guess i mis spoke that...the 68 only came with lights on certian models...In 70, they were supposed to be standard on all models, XXL's sounds pretty interesting.
My 69 GMC is also withough lights.

Either that or the '70 I had was a hodge-podge from a previous owner (???). I just remember taking them out and found it curious that there was an embossed place on the back that, if you cut away the plastic, looked like it could have been a light. That's when I yanked one off my '68 I also had at the time and found the same thing. Maybe in in '70 it was 1/2 tons that all had them since 3/4 ton truck were often classified as "big trucks" for seat belts and the like.

Well, I've had a 3/4 ton built in 4/70, and the one ton, built in 6/70...both had lights, and not listed on the option list, the restoration catalog also shows that '70 should have lights, however, as we all know, some things just can not be explained, like the coils under my 69 GMC...with no option listing.

Our 69 also does not have lights... only reflectors. BUT, it will have lights after the new wiring harness is installed.
