ok i got a few questions

ok on my 68 gmc which was a factry small block truck..was told a 307,,but not sure on that..but any way
question 1: if i decide to use the 454 out of my 84,,is it a pretty much drop in, will the motor mounts from the 84 work, or am i going to have to find some.

2) should i use the 350 turbo that came with the truck or go with the turbo 400 i got laying around. now the truck will not be a heavey hauler,,or work truck..i will use it for pulling a travel trailer,,if and when i get one..

3)what year spindles can i get out of junkyard to get disk brakes up front.

4)what gears should be in the rearend..personally im not worried about take off,,i need mpg,,or at least better than the 5 to 8 i get in my 84.
anything over 10 and i will be happy.

heres the vin number
CE10DPB49417

IS THERE A PLACE I CAN LOOK IT UP..

im not restoring the truck..i want a daily driver..i dont worry about mpg to much,,but would like better then my 84 work truck..man that 5 to 8,,(closer to 6) is rough, but i knew when i bought the truck what to expect...

i want a truck i can play with, probably just gonna put it in primer, maybe the rat rod look for now,,eventually put a paint job on it...but it will never be a show truck or trailer queen..i got it to drive...i am going to get pics of it now

Re: ok i got a few questions

hi, and welcome to the forum from canada,
answer to question 1)i think you can use the 84 motor mounts, if you adapt the 84 frame mounts to fit your truck, click here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=128765.
#2, personally i would use the th400 , but you will probably have to change your driveshaft, the th350 will probably hold up with a trans cooler though,
#3, is the truck a 1/2 or 3/4 ton?,
#4, if i had to guess its probably a 3.08 rear, have you checked the glovebox option sheet? it should say a gear ratio on it

Re: ok i got a few questions

if you look on the glovebox door it will say the rearend gear. if it doesn't then it is a 3.73

Re: ok i got a few questions

oh ok i forgot,,1/2 ton...will have to look in the glove box...thaks for the info

so is the 400 longer or shorter than the 350 turbo..

so from the vin nunber i know its a 2wd, v8, 1/2 ton, wide side, made in pontiac, and a 68

thanks..now is there a site that has optons for the truck,,such as color,,engine choices...

Re: ok i got a few questions

If it is a small block with auto, and no option lited, then it is a 3.07, not a 3.73.
How big of a trailer you looking at tugging on?
