carb spacers?
im thinking about gettting a carb spacer and am wondering about the power it could add and what sounds they make, im looking at getting a 2 inch spacer my friend said it gives the gas more time to atomize so it burns better and the added air volume under the carb helps reduce back pressure or sumthing about when you let off the gas suddenly the thingers (my mind went blank for the proper name) that let the air in snap shut im not sure about what that would do but he said its best to have as little of that back pressure as possible or sumthing, and i have also heard they make kind of like a whisling or whiny sorta sound when you giver gas i dunno, mabe some 1 could clarify this for me thanks.

never heard any noise..they do work..
the best feature is the cooling effect it has for the carb. better low end torque |

some combos will respond to one style, and not show a bit of improvement with another style, other engines don't respond at all to any kind.
It's a crap shoot, but the generic rule ... they do work. |

If you get one,get the Phenolic ones.They minimize the tranfer of heat from the intake to the carb.

I run a TB spacer on my '97 BB Chevy and it was worth 200 rpm on the top. I don't notice the whistle with the stock air cleaner, but I could here it when I had the K&N system on it. I don't notice any difference on the low end.

I run a 1" phenolic with the seperate 4 holes. It improved startups and I get about 10 more feet of tire patch. The four holes seem to work better on dual plane and give good low/mid torque. What your friend may have been trying to tell you was about the damping effect of the spacer. Your gas/air charge comes in haulin butt and slams into the bottom of your intake then it has to figure out which direction to go depending on which runner is screamin for the mix. The increace below the carb is like having larger volume runners and sort of smoothes the flow. It's a real cheap investment for a tested improvement. Didn't hear the whistle thru the K&N cause of the pipes. My 2 cents. Steve

Most carb spacers are used for looks period. I dont believe a raised plenum will increase torque. They are designed to repair high RPM power curves. You have heard of the Edelbrock Performer intakes? The Performer RPM has a taller plenum & is for a higher RPM curve...
