I'm buying a 72 Blazer that currently has a 4spd in it and I was wondering what all is needed to convert to a turbo 350 or 700R4??

Could I buy a newer truck (80's) and install the tranny and transfer case from it to the 72?? I know nothing about 4x4's.

If you want a 1972 tranny and transfer case and can wait until Marchish they should be available if you need em.

You can convert it but will require a short tail shaft th350 if you choose it.You can take the tranny out of a 2 wheel drive but a different tailshaft will have to be used.You can use the tranny out of a 73-87 truck or blazer but the transfer case will be different depending on if it has a manual locking hubs(np205) or automatic hubs(np203 or 1980+ which would be a np208).You can use the transfer case in it now but you will need a different adapter plate.
I am in the same place and I am using the original transfer case and putting a short tail shaft on the automatic out of a 2 wheel drive.That is the easiest way IMO.BTW,that blazer should have a new process 205 transfer case in it.

What adapter do I need?? Where can I get one?? The seller is also throwing in a auto flex-plate.

Call me at 850-0225. Are they in good shape or do they need to be rebuilt??

Adapter plates can be bought at a junkyard,ebay,and here sometimes.A Np205 adapter plate for a TH350 is what you need.I dont know what part number it is or a more proper name for it.I think they may also be able to be bought new,I cant confirm this though.

If you plan to wait awhile my 2 wheel drive to 4x4 transmission conversion will be done and I will have the adapter plate so I can get you more info.

Dave (can not remember his board name) gave me a 350 short that was working when he took it out. It's yours if you want it. I have it stored in Edmonton at my parents and can grab it on Dec15 th. Free is always the best price.
Actually I think you saw it sitting in the back on my blazer that day at Darrens.
