About to get working on the 68

The time has come to start working on the body. Here is my plan for this but remember this is definitely a LOONNGGG term plan
I don't have the cash to do all of this at one time so I am going to have to break it up into pieces.

Planning to pull the hood, replace both fenders with new ones (take to body shop to paint) since the previous owner looks like he hit something on each side and creased them, take inner fenders to get blasted and powder coated, replace core support (rusted at bottom and from what I can see if may be to far gone. wont know for sure until its out), remove the engine and there is access to the frame up to the cab. Por-15 time with a topcoat.

Man this is gonna be a long road and this truck is gonna look weird with nice new hugger orange fenders and hood along with a chipped crappy looking silver on the rest

What do you folks think?
Thanks
Brad

Re: About to get working on the 68

if its gonna be a long term project I would chose to paint it all at one time. thus eliminating mis-matched paint.
about the radiator support. didnt I see someone has patch pieces for the bottom under the battery?

Re: About to get working on the 68

68C15 I have heard about that mismatched paint piece. Could I have the fenders primered (say dp90) and then a couple coats of clear over that? Would that seal it up long enough (say 1-2 years worst case) until I get it painted?

Thanks

you know it dosen't take all that long long to build a vehicle if you do it yourself , I know about the waiting and waiting after something is at a bodyshop , I have never taken anything to a shop , I am gonna strip each peice of my 67 to bare metal paint it a peice at a time then reasemble it meanwhile rebuild the motor and paint all the frame and then wetsand and buff the entire truck , if I can secure my weekends it should take about 3 to 5 month's , but I know when I am into something like this I can't sleep I sometimes look around and it will be morning when I thought it was only midnight ?? my point is get at it it won't take year's if you put the effort into it ,,,

I know that Brothers Trucks has a patch panel but other places may carry the patch panel too.

Re: About to get working on the 68

Thanks for the suggestions. I plan on doing as much as I can. I was going to do a fender and then have it painted my color choice (hugger orange) but was told that if I do it that way then by the time I am all done it wont match up. So if thats the case I was thinking DP90 it and clear coat it. Bad part is that I dont have the space or the tools to do my own painting except for rattle can.
