TH350 or 700R4

I have two rears for my 68 project. I have a 6 lug with a 3:73 gear and I have a 5 lug with a 3:07 gear. I have a TH 350 which I would use with the 3:07 for A 3:07 final drive or I can use the 3:73 with the 700R4 and have a similiar final drive. What to do? Any suggestions??

depends on what you want the truck for, I would go with the 700r . The truck would be a better driver

Re: TH350 or 700R4

I have a 400 turbo with a 3.07 and I am looking at doing a swap to a 700r4. However once it is done I am reinstalling my original 3.73. 3.07 to me would be too tall with the 700r4.

Re: TH350 or 700R4

I'm putting a th400 in my truck and swapping the 3.07 gears for 3.73. After I get thru working my truck I'm probably putting a 2004r in it with the 3.73 gears.

Re: TH350 or 700R4

Well my truck came with 4.10's, Th350 and @ 70mph I would be turning 3600rpm's. Then I put in a 700r4 and 3.43's and it has teh same take off as with the 4.10's (700r4's have a 20% lower first) but now @ 70mph it turns 1800rpm. I think this is the perfect combo for streetability and performance.

Re: TH350 or 700R4

I would just build for a little more low end power, and run the Th350 and the 3.07.

All depends on how they are built or if you are just running it out of the junk yard. One of the biggest deals with them lasting is running the corect valve body for your power and weight. My trany was built by ATO in Sacramento ($2300)and is guarentied for 700hp out of a small block for 3yrs!

I agree with you as you said yours was built for it but i was thinking his wasnt and if they are not built to handle the HP they dont hold up very well.

Not meaning to highjack, but has anyone heard of Phoenix Transmissions out of Weatherford, TX. Here is the link, they seem pretty reasonable. The owner quoted $875 to rebuild my th400 for their level 2 performance.
