Clogged intake

Hello I decided to switch out from a 2 barrel intake&carb to a edel. performer and a edel. quadrajet on my stock 350. My center port between the intake runners (heat riser port???) was completely clogged on both sides of the intake manifold. What function does this port serve??? Does it have anything to do with the egr valve??? Why would it have clogged?? And would this affect any bad idle characteristics i was having?? Thanks,,, Matt

Re: Clogged intake

for warming a divorced style choke, for quicker warm ups. on egr equiped engines, this is where the exhaust enters egr valve then the intake track,(for reducing nox emissions)

Re: Clogged intake

Its main purpose is to preheat the intake so it gets better gas mileage(supposedly) and for faster warm ups. Its not really needed, even in -30 degree weather I never had any trouble with the passgaes blocked off in my engines and I did it on purpose.

Re: Clogged intake

I just put a 4barrel intake non-EGR on my truck and it completely blocks them off. It just deals with the EGR,, its not really needed.

What intake and carb# did you use? I put on an Edelbrock 2107 intake and Tues. I'll be putting on a 1406 carb.

Re: Clogged intake

It is there to prevent a icing situation happening in colder climates. The heating also was supposed to help the SMOG equipment work by preheating the fuel charge to the cylinders. I have mine blocked off for a cooler air charge to the cylinders for HP increases.
