Cost to shorten a frame?

What should I expect to pay to have a 67 C-10 LWB shortened?
I've seen the post by glock35ipsc 10-14-04, and would like it done just like that. Thanks

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

Welcome to the board from sunny Seattle, WA. TTT (to the top) for you...some that has paid to have this done will answer your question. I assume you want to shorten the frame and the bed or are you just going to purchase a short bed?

Post some pics of your truck!

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

I have heard from 400 to 600 range. Don't quote me on it though. Just what ever you do MAKE sure whoever is going to do it that they are well qualified. Hate to hear later. You were driving down the road and OOPs The frame broke right in half on me.

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

I think a lot of the cost will depend on how much work you want to do up front. If you strip the truck to bare frame and take it to someone, I wouldn't expect to pay more then $200-$300. If you drive the truck in with the bed on and expect to drive out, I would expect about $600-$800.

For the easiest vs. cheapest, I would pull the bed and clean the frame, then tow it in/out. If you strip it al the way, you could then have it powder coated for about $300 once it's all welded up.

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

I know Early Classics sells frame stiffeners also. You might want to use them, I think there only 50 bucks...

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

If you are going to pay someone I suggest that you look for a good SWB bed, sell yours and have the frame worked on. might be some board members in your area that have done it as well...

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

to shorten a framw if you include new brake lines bushings springs etc. i'd expect $600-$800
now for a fleetside bed if you found somebody extremley capable to shorten it correctly?? i'd expect you'd have to spend $3000-$5000

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

To shorten your frame, you must cut it under the cab. I do some welding on the side, & have shortened a long bed frame ( & bed). I can only speak for my self, but because of the accuracy required to keep the frame straight, not to mention the need for good welds & splice plates, with your frame "bare" would be $375.00 to shorten the frame only. If you find a quote thats less, ask to see some of their work, or they are hungry..

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

And here I am trying to sell a perfect good shortframe. I would almost give it away if somebody was interested in it. Key word "almost".
Also take KID 's advice ask for references.

I'd take it if I had a way to get it. Yours is the one with the bent support isnt it?

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

Yeah mine was. I beleive I am going to have to straighten it before I get any offers. If I don't get any takers after that. It will be going to the crusher.

Heck before that happens i'd send a truck down there to get it.

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

It cost me $500 to shorten my frame. I brought in a rolling frame and it took just a couple days. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=181633

Re: Cost to shorten a frame?

Welcome from West Tennessee. If you want the easy way out I have a 1967 SWB frame that has been blasted, Eastwoods rust encapicator, and Eastwoods black frame paint. It has been upgraded with a 85 GMC front cross member with all the suspension parts new with a power steering box mounted. It has a 72 rear end to complete the 5 lug wheel conversion. It is rolling on 60% or better Goodyear Wrangler tires mounted on 8" Ralleys The only thing it needs is shocks and you are ready to mount metal. Delivery is possiable for a fee. $1000 for frame you pick it up, or add $1.00 a mile Mapquest miles to your door. PM for details. (serious inquiry only).

I have one too. It's a bare, coil spring, shortbed frame in excellent condition. Been blasted and POR-15 coated. I would take $400 for it and I live about 60 miles East of Des Moines, IA.

I shortened my original one using Glock's instructions and it worked out great. The only thing I did different was I boxed the frame in that area.
