4 bbl conversion question

I recently converted from a factory 2 bbl to an edelbrock performer and edel. 4 bbl q-jet. on my 76' cheyenne w/ a 350ci. My question is did the different carbs use a different throttle/kickdown bracket mounted on the intake???
If i use the 2 bbl bracket i have to really stretch my k-down and my throttle is about 3/4 open if i attach my throttle to my current bracket. Any expertise is greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt.

Re: 4 bbl conversion question

We just fought / are fighting the same issue, Matt.

You can either find someone with an Edelbrock catalog who knows whcih part to order, and pay out the butthole for the fancy bracketry, or you can fabricate a setup with a bolt, some nuts, and some washers. I'm not exactly sure what is involved (since my old man did it while I was at work), but use the brackets off your 2 barrel as a guide to how it should appear. Try to get it as close to stock-fitting as possible, so you don't have to adjust it much. I've never had to, but I've read adjusting the kickdown is a PITA.

I'll try and snap some pictures tomorrow afternoon of how we set it up for my carb, but keep in mind I am using the Edelbrock Performer #1406, not a Edelbrock Q-Jet. We should have my whole setup up and running tomorrow night.

If you got some more questions about the whole setup, fire away, 'cause now I've been there. Hopefully I can save you some of the if possible.

Re: 4 bbl conversion question

Well, i realize i am switching from a 2bbl to a 4 bblcarb. However i am running a 1902 edel. quad. The 1902 is actually for my application (if it had been a 4 bbl) right down to the purge canister and necessary vacuum ports,, etc. Surely there should be a bracket available . I am still wondering if the 2bbl and 4 bbl brkts. are different???

Re: 4 bbl conversion question

If you mean throttle / kickdown brackets, I'd have to guess yes, because the Edelbrock 1406 claimed its throttle / kickdown bracketry was a direct fit for Chevy, yet I am having to fabricate a setup to work. This leads me to believe the bracketry on a 2barrel and 4barrel are different.

See, I just went with the 1406 (no EGR, pre-emissions) and 2701 (non emissions non EGR) because my dad had already elliminated the charcoal (vapor) canister and every other emissions item he could. Doing this swap we have elliminated the rest of it all. I think the only vacuum lines I'm having to hook up are for the distributor, the ventalation vacuum line, and the transmission, and the heater hose. My A/C gave up the ghost so I'm not even intalling a solenoid and that vacuum setup.

Re: 4 bbl conversion question

Well i douno if i can help but i got a 4bbl with no emissions system.all i got is hoses running to my trans, carb, and distributor.I used my old bracket for my throtle i cut it in half and but it on the right side with the bolt that goes to the carb that holds it down and a lock nut. I dont use any Edelbrock carb cause had two and all it takes is a lil dirt and you gota clean it all out by takeing it apart.

Re: 4 bbl conversion question

i would consider that ,, however i have to also take into consideration the manual kickdown for the th-350. I ordered a 10.00 spectre adjustable throttle bracket through summit. I figured for the money it's worth a try. I am only about 1/2 inch short on the throttle and maybe??? a little more than that on the kickdowns (i don't know since i haven't road tested the vehicle yet)

Re: 4 bbl conversion question

Yeah we've been *insert numerous curses* fighting the linkages all night. We've got the throttle about right, the kickdown is, yeah, about half an inch, if not less than, too short. Tomorrow we're taking the hood off the truck so we can get back there and actually work. Otherwise, we're ready to rock. All the hoses are hooked up. We have to run the wires for the electric choke as well, but that's simply a matter of tapping into some other hot wires. Should have mine running tomorrow night hopefully. I really hope we haven't FUBAR'ed the kickdown on mine as much as we've screwed with it.
