'62 Chevy Stepside - Home Sweet Home

Flew out to Charlotte, NC to claim my '62 Stepside. Drove it back home to Austin, TX with little to no road trouble.

That 235 is running like a champ. Although, I think I might now be hearing an exhaust leak and the idle is a bit rougher than before. I'll get up under the hood this weekend and start poking around.

Other than that.... I'm thinking of replacing the oil bath air cleaner with a regular modern day paper filter.

Is there anything I should be concerned about or is it just a simple swap out?

LOL

absolutely! that is one of the first cosmetic things i hope to get done. i'm hoping i can find some nice chrome bumpers for front and back.

my dad put that on there so he could get up into the bed easier.

as much as i can understand his reason...... it sure does look ugly. it's quite the knee-buster too, let me tell you!

Congrats on your new truck! It looks nice. Not sure what to tell you on the filter. On my old motor, I put a later model carb with electric choke on it, but that was the 250 six with the oil bath type. There are a lot more options for air cleaners if you can get rid of that carb, and get one that was made for the paper filters.

Thanks! I'm enjoying it so far. But, I'm not real sure where I want to start with the upgrades.

About what you said on the carb.... "get one that was made for the paper filters". Is there really a difference? Other than the length of the fastener bolt (or whatever it's called).... what would be the difference with the carb?

Maybe I am wrong. I was thinking the 235 used a clamp style air cleaner. If it uses the bolt up through the center, then you should'nt have to much trouble finding a breather for it. Maybe someone will chim in and point you in the right direction.

Swapping in a paper element filter will be no problem. I did it for a short time on the 235 in my '62. I personally prefer the look of the oil bath filter, but that's just me.

I'm pretty sure the truck was never down in Stallings. You may have seen in up in Kannapolis though.
