Heartwarming Story About My Baby
So I've been trying to sell my 85 C-10 fleetside pickup. I'm at work yesterday and my phone rings and it's not a number I recognize so I answer hoping it's someone looking to buy it. The voice on the other end tells me your selling my truck. I laugh and play it off as though the person is kidding. We get to talking and the guy that bought my truck from the dealership in 84 when it was brand new is who I was talking to. I'm only the 3rd owner so to figure it all out I ask what kind of motor's in it then...he begins well it's a Edelbrock crate 350 we bored it 40 over...got a Lunati cam with .485 lift. A 670 CFM holley street avenger, B&M shift kit..so on and so forth...how crazy is that...really put a smile on my face and as truck enthusiasts I figured it would do the same with you guys. Thanks for your time.
Tony

Re: Heartwarming Story About My Baby
Cool story! I sold my K5 to a Marine from Camp Pendleton and then years later, I was in the market again and there it was for sale in the Auto Trader! I scooped it right back up.
Did the original owner seem interested to buy it back?

Sounds like a good story. Tell the new owner about the board too.

Re: Heartwarming Story About My Baby
I bought my truck almost 6 years ago. The guy I bought it from had owned it for several years, and his brother had owned it before him.
About a year or so after I bought my truck, a lady stopped me in a parking lot. She was very excited, and said she bought my truck new. It was completely stock and the time, and there was little to differentiate it from any other blue Chevy pickup. I didn't believe her, but I politely listened to her story. Since then, much of what she told me has turned out to be right. She told me which dealer she bought it from. I did a carfax on it once when they were offering free reports. It was bought from that dealer. She said she had the engine changed out at her dealership for a rebuilt one. When I took the engine apart, I could see that it had been rebuilt. She said she took it to UT when she was in college. I have since noticed there is the faint outline of a UT Longhorn sticker on the driver's side fender. There were other things I can't think of right now, but it was enough to convince me that she probably bought it new... Slonaker |

Re: Heartwarming Story About My Baby
I sold my first truck, 69 c20, about 7 years ago to a guy that wanted something to pull a trailer and wanted a custom classic to work on. Then about a year ago I was in the market again and saw my truck for 5k more than I sold it to him for. I called on it and talked to him but he wouldn't budge on the price and I couldn't afford it at 10k. So I'm back in the game with a 69 c10 that I've had about 5 months but if I ever have the opportunity, I'll get my c20 back in the future.

Re: Heartwarming Story About My Baby
yeah i have not had that happen et but my freind's dad sold his truck to a local fire fighter who then did not talk to him after that (only his freind to buy the truck which is sad) the FF sold it to a local cop who still owns it and usees it dayly. my freind sees it all the time and it brings back memorys frome when he was a kid. It is a 83 c20 with a six in it and the 4 speed. pretty small world i guess

Re: Heartwarming Story About My Baby
Several years ago I decided to sell my project 65 Chevelle 2 door station wagon. Yes, I know how rare this car is and what is was worth (my nickname is JohnnyWagon afterall). It was in pretty poor shape, someone had done some bad body work to it. It must have had many gallons of Bondo under the bomb-can black primer paint. I decided it was more than I wanted to take on. I sold it to another "Rarewagon" collector. He called me a few weeks later and told me that after he researched the vin # he discovered that it was the exact same car that he had bought new from the dealer back in '65! He says he intends to restore it back to original.

Re: Heartwarming Story About My Baby
Actually the money made from the 2 door wagon went towards the paint job on a 4 door wagon that I'm building. Gonna be a strange mix of pro-touring and old-school rat rod. Slammed, dechromed, tricked out 283 w/700r4. Cant get pix out cuz she's in winter storage.

Re: Heartwarming Story About My Baby
awesome stories, reminds me, my dad and I last weekend over thanksgiving got his first car running. After his parents gave it to him, its a '64 galaxie 500xl w/ the big block, 9 inch and 4 speed and all, he never sold it cuz he knew he'd regret it later. Sure enough, it sat all these years and last time it ran was in 1984 and we built a motor and fired it up last weekend. Needless to say he's excited to get it all fixed up. And I refuse to sell my first car unless I have 2, and hearing ur stories reminds me of how glad I am 2 still have my c10

Wow, some very awesome stories you all have. Nothing like that has happened to me yet but I know a couple people who have had it happen to them.

Re: Heartwarming Story About My Baby
The 84 Silverado my parents ordered when I was two years old keeps turning up near my home...
They ordered it in 83 with a variety of unusual options (white/navy two-tone) and wanted to keep it untill I could have it at age 16... Conditions dictated it's sale when I was 13 and I was heartbroken... It was the first vehicle I ever drove and worked on... It was sold to a neighbor in excellent, near-perfect condition. He was a mechanic who maintained it and treated it well. From there it was sold to a long-time family friend who modified it, but kept it in excellent condition. He sold it to a girl I went to high-school with who hurt it, (replaced its third 350 with a 305) but kept it in excellent cosmetic shape... She sold it to a local car lot, who sold it to the lot owner's brother (who dealt with my then-banker brother). From there, it was traded to another local car-lot in non-running condition. After sitting on the dealership's back lot for some time, it was sold at auction some 100 miles away, to a neighbor... One day I was driving home, less than three miles from home, when I spotted the unusual white/navy combination sitting behind an old house... It was being parted out after being claimed as salvage... Later that week, I drove by (checking on it regularly) and saw it was gone... I thought it had been lost forever and probably crushed. Well, about a month ago, while at a buddies' race car shop, I struck up a conversation with his engine builder about my replacement '84 and he said he just bought a complete 84 that he was starting to restore and modify... It's the same white/navy 84 Silverado I drove as a kid... Strange huh... Now get this... Dad sold it for $3000. The first neighbor sold it for $4000. The family friend sold it for $5000. The girl sold it for $5500. The brother bought it for $5500. It moved to the second lot for $1800 and was sold at auction for $500... The engine builder bought it (from his brother-in-law, who is my neighbor) for $150... It's like it knows where home is... |
