71 front drive shaft ???

I am trying to finish up my 72 Blazer and I am missing the front drive shaft. Did the 71-72 blazer have a cv yoke style like the late 70's or should I be looking for something else? Pics would be great. Thank you

Re: 71 front drive shaft ???

Various shafts are available, does it have any lift to it?

Re: 71 front drive shaft ???

Mine has a NP205 and the drive shaft is CV style. It's also stock with no lift if that helps.

Re: 71 front drive shaft ???

The 72 would have used a Spicer double cardan joint which uses a yoke on the transfer case output. Sometime in the mid/late '70s GM changed to a Saginaw double cardan which uses a flange on the t-case output.

Re: 71 front drive shaft ???

My blazer is not lifted and has a 205 transfer case, by the looks of it I need a driveshaft with (double joint) that connects with a u joint/yoke. Is this a difficult driveshaft to find? What year/models GM products should I look for it on in the junkyard??

Re: 71 front drive shaft ???

Keep an eye on the parts board, they show up fairly often. Should be the same ds for truck/blazer sense the engine/trannies are mounted in the same place with regard to the front axle.

Re: 71 front drive shaft ???

My truck has the Saginaw 3-speed/Dana 20 combo, and I bought it without a front shaft. I bought a used one from a truck with a 465/205 combo and it fit no problem, so that tells me that the 67-72s with either drivetrain should fit fine.

Re: 71 front drive shaft ???

I have a 72 Blazer. I removed the old cv yoke and had the drive shaft made longer and put in a normal u-joint. I do not have sespension lift and the angle worked out fine.
