fuel problem

Hello i installed a fuel cell and had to install a electronic fuel pump so i wanted to test the pump to see if it worked i hooked it straight to the positve on the battery to test it i never cranked the truck and oh did the pump work a buddy had came over and i forgot about the pump running for about 5 minutes and gas was going every were from the carb i assume i guess it was over flowing i guess the question is when i hook it to the ignition it should be ok? what if i turn the key on and not crank it will it over flow? any help on this would be great as i am not no mechanic buy far but i can beat and bang with a hammer and weld does that count for anything

Re: fuel problem

Are you running a return line? If you use an electric pump you have to have a return line. Also is the pump self regualted or does it need an external regulator? That is important also. Hope this helps.

Re: fuel problem

Get a regulator (adjustable would be my reccomendation), it will provide you with a return, you will just have to run another line from the regulator back to the fuel cell, that way any fuel not needed by the carb will recirclulate back to the cell.

Re: fuel problem

why did you HAVE to run an electric fuel pump??i can think of many thousands of cars i've seen that had fuel cells and the good old reliable mechanical fuel pumps--- ever watched any nascar races 100% run fuel cells and mechanical pumps on thier 800hp engines// IMO running an electric pump is just looking to get youself a problem

I agree. If you run new fuel line and it is free of any leaks, the stock pump will work just fine.

Re: fuel problem

I got a electric pump on my truck with no return line . You don't need one unless it is a fuel injection with high pressure. You may need a pressure regulator if your carb needle cannot handle the pressure the pump puts out. Most electric pumps for stock fuel systems do not need regulators. What kind of pump do you have?

Re: fuel problem

What kind of carb? 9 psi is to much for street carbs. No need to replace gasket as that is not your problem. Your problem is that your carb is flooding over because the float needles are not closing from too much pressure or debris under needle. Do you have a fuel filter?

Re: fuel problem

if it's leaking between the carb and the manifold, did you try to gently tighten the carb mounting bolts?

Re: fuel problem

You have something under the float needles not letting them shut off the fuel flow. Will the engine run?

Re: fuel problem

You need to let someone that can work on carbs to have a look at it. You have a flooding problem.
