My dilemma
Heres A "what would you do in my shoes" Thread
I have a 72 longbed that i picked up almost 5 years ago, intending to do a full frame off restoration. I chose the truck because it is solid, with the exception of a crappy patch job on one of the rockers and one section of the floor about the size of a license plate (I say this because somebody welded a license plate down to fix it ). When i bought the truck, the owner had "lost" the title, but he had the bill of sale from when he bought it 7 years earlier, so we filled out all the necessary paperwork, had it notarized, no big deal. so i thought Turns out, the truck had not been registered in so long, that the DMV cannot find any record of it (most DMV's purge their records after so many years), therefore they will not issue me a title unless I give them $5k (bonded) that they will hold for three years, although they still let me register it in my name Herein lies my dilemma. I'm finally ready to tear it down (I have a SWB frame lined up, and most of the new parts required to put it back together), and since i will be swapping frames, i cant decide wether i should just ditch the cab and find one that has a valid title, or stick with it since it is registered in my name, and i only need a title to sell it. It's a tough decision because of the condition of the cab, and i often joke about finding a cab with a title, and just swapping the VIN plate and registering it as a different cab i'm not sure if i should sink any more money into a truck i may never hold a title to opinions, and insight are greatly appreciated

Re: My dilemma
if it was me i think i would find a really cheap truck with a good title and cab and use the new cab short frame and all the good parts from the current truck and have a truck with a title and tell dmv to try and find another sucker to give them an interest free $5k 5 year loan and take all the good leftover parts after everything is said and done and sell it and make a little money back. BTW i hate dealing with the DMV sometimes but every now and then they seem to come through and actually help me out so i can bash them to much.

Re: My dilemma
I would put my Matco rivet gun to use. The only dilemma I see is what to paint it when your done with it.

Re: My dilemma
Move to Utah...you can join our local group, pay the highest tax burden of all states and register your truck for about 120 bucks.

Re: My dilemma
Damn, piss on the interest free loan to the state and put that 5grand to use on your truck. Find you a donor frame and title and part your truck out to the new truck.
