72 doors

Can someone tell me the difference between the 67-71 doors and the 72 doors?

Re: 72 doors

Easiest way is to look for a screw hole just below the vent window on the inside. 72 only option. Also 72 doors have holes drilled for christmas tree's, ie plastic door panel clips. where 67-71 use screws and weld nuts. I ll get a pic for you.

Re: 72 doors

IIRC correctly the panels on the inside are different on the 72 than on 67-71 models.

Re: 72 doors

As mentioned above that little hole is normally a 72 thing. As far as the rest of it.....the door panels on a 67-71 are flat with big handles and the window regulator shafts are shorter. On a 72 the door panels have some deep texture and has different window regulators with longer shafts

Re: 72 doors

The hole has a screw that goes from the inner door skin to the outter, keeps the small lip that connects the 2 from splitting, which is common on 67-71 model doors.

Re: 72 doors

So now i have a question for you guys, can you put 67-71 door panels on a 72 if you swap out the 72 internals with 67-71 units? I want the 67-71 door panels but may be able to get my hands on a 72 door to replace my junk passenger one, just wondering if I can make it work for me

Re: 72 doors

You can swap them around with only minor modification--ie switch the internals.

So if you are replacing your doors with aftermarket ones, would 72's be the ones to buy??

Re: 72 doors

Are chevy doors the same as gmc doors? and the differences above, are those the only differences.

Re: 72 doors

Drew, they hardest part in putting 67-71 door panels on 72 doors is marking and drilling the bottom holes then installing threaded inserts. Other than that it is a breeze.

Hart rod- to me yes. I am not sure if the aftermarket 72 doors have the hole or not but it is a worthy upgrade. Its easier to back date a 72 door than to update a older door for 72 door panels, I ve done it cause I couldnt find 72 doors when I started my orange and white truck.

1tonswb- Yes especially if you have a 72 and dont want to buy aftermarket, it was a 1 year only door.

edmonton72- Yes they are the same chevy and gmc doors. Same guidlines apply.

Hope this helps you all.
