pics of my almost finished truck
first i would like to say how much help this board was in the build of this truck.
i did'nt take many pictures during the build and they were'nt digital, but i finally took some of it almost finished. it is '72 swb with a '68 front clip. it started as a long bed but i had a 67 short bed frame that i used to convert it to swb. i replaced all the suspension with new parts and added 4 wheel disc brakes. i had a new six lug front disc brake setup before i found out the 6 lug rear was bad. i bought 6 lug 4wd axles from summit for 73-81 trucks and they fit the '72 5 lug rear perfect. i ended up only using the cab, doors, engine, and rearend from the lwb. i replaced the full interior and recovered an '88 chev truck seat. full new front clip except for the grille i had from the same donor as the frame. after a long search i found a good bed for $150 that only had some surface rust. the engine only had around 1500 miles on it so i reused it but replaced the t350 with a 700-r4. i picked up an aluminum caprice driveshaft at the local junkyard and only had to get new u-joints for it. i installed a blazer tank in the rear. i still have alot left i want to do to the truck but at least now i can drive and enjoy it while continuing to work on it. the best thing about it is i did everything in my garage including paint. hope everyone likes it. The truck the frame and grille donor

thanks good to see you here too! funny you should ask about a drop. i am thinking about 2" drop springs in the rear but i don't want the rear to look lower than the front. i'm not really in to the low look but i definately want it level.

Re: pics of my almost finished truck
it was almost bolt in. i had to drill two holes in the mounting plate. the only hard part was matching the fitting size on the lines that run to the proportioning valve. luckily i bought the wrong year brake line set the first time and had some extras. if you have the '82 as a donor you should be able to use all the lines and mount the proportioning valve down on the front frame crossbrace. i wish i had thought of the newer brake parts earlier in the build. i don't really like the way mine are ran and may change them in the future.

before you start make sure you have the correct lines(ones that will work) to go from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve. hope this helps

Re: pics of my almost finished truck
first off nice truck and kudos to you for doing it all at home.
the brake line deal can be solved by using adaptors available from places like NAPA designed for just such a purpose. I did the same booster swap. except I cut off the top 2 holes and the others bolted right up. I used the original master as it was new already and a larger bore size. I see you moved the fuse box. hows that 700R4 cable adaptor working for you? what kind of economy are you getting from the Edelbrock? Last edited by 68C15; 12-05-2006 at 09:04 AM. |

i used an american autowire wiring harness. i did'nt know at the time it did not have a firewall plug. i would have welded up the hole if i had known. i don't really like the bowtie overdrive tv kit. the plate mounts under the carb and seems very restrictive. i cut off the rear bracket and modified it to just bolt to the rear of the carb. also it does not seem to be the right distance i have had a hard time adjusting the tv cable. still can't get a wot downshift. i still need to do some tuning on the carb but i'm getting around 15-16 right now.

Re: pics of my almost finished truck
Your truck looks fantastic. I had pretty much the same master cylinder on my S10. I ground the edges down and used fine sand paper and also polished it. You might like this of how it looks.
