Thanks guys. Is there anything that would basically bolt in to increase the capacity? Original optional larger tank, or other years that would work?

Just a single tank which is why I was looking into something larger.

Re: Will a Blazer gas tank work in a SWB truck?

You could install another saddle tank on the other side. It was a common factory option. They are filled separately, and controlled by a switch on the dash. It also switches between the sending units of the two tanks so you can check both with one fuel gauge.

The only problem is that trucks with two tanks have fillers on both sides of the bed. If your truck came with a single filler, you would need to switch beds to one from a dula tank pickup, or modify your existing bed.

The issue with the Blazer tank, I believe, is related to the filler as well. You would need to fabricate something to allow you to fill it with gas.

My dad's old truck that we had in the 70s just had a fabricated steel tank bolted into the front of the bed, kind of like the toolboxes you see now. It was plumbed in with a tee and a manual valve that was mounted through the floor between the seat and the door. It wasn't pretty, but it allowed the truck to carry a huge amount of fuel.

Filler for the Blazer tank can be addressed simply by routing it up to the bed floor if you were so inclined..

The downside is you can't fill the bed with stuff and then fill the tank. I guess that might not be an issue is he has another tank to work with...
