power steering shaft .
I have a question on the steering shaft for the power steering conversion:
I know you have to cut the original shaft, but is there another shaft that can just replace the original one with out cutting? If I go with a complete steering column from a 71 truck ,or a van dose the shaft need to be cut also ? I'm hoping to start my swap soon. |

I am not sure of any direct swaps, however if you are not wanting to cut yours due to the need to weld it back together, I suggest a "D" coupler. This is an easy retrofit. Find one the same size as the diameter of your steering column shaft. You will need to grind a flat spot of each end of the steering column shaft and drill a hole through each of the ends. You can then secure the coupler with hardware and the shortening process is complete and looks near stock. I have done this method several times with good results.

ive read that a coluum from a 71 is colapsable so you should be able to make it work.it has a plastic button hold it in place.
