Disc brake pads????
I'm in the process of converting my truck to disc brakes and I'm curious about the pads that came in the kit. The backside pad came with a spring clip to attach it to the caliper but the frontside pad has no clip and it just lays in there
 . This doesn't seem right to me. When I rotate the disc it's flopping around and making a rubbing noise. Does this pad seat itself somehow after the brakes are bled or is it missing a clip????. I'm thinking about going to the parts store and having them pull a set of pads for a 71' so I can compare them to what I have.

After searching I found this pic which must be correct because it looks like my setup. Part number 8 holds that backside on but part number 5 is what's wiggling around loose. If I remove the caliper assembly that pad will fall out on it's own. Are the 2 little ears bendable to get them to hold on? Can somebody please shed some light?

The outer pad has little tabs on the top towards each end. Use channel locks to crimp them on the caliper. Also the anti-squeal goo.

The outer pad just sits in there. Once you get everything bolted on it should be snug up against the roter and basically just float there. It sounds as if there's no fluid pushing #10 and the caliper up against the rotor yet.

Bob- I didn't realize the tabs were supposed to be crimped but that makes sense.
Brad- We only have one side done so far, you are correct in that nothing has been tested yet.

LOL Steve!. I'm just not used to these pads. I mounted the wheel to check for clearance of the wheel weights at the spindle and it's super close!. I'm going to buzz the spindle with the grinder for a tad more clearance. I also found my tube bender to do the brake line!.

Have a person in the cab. Take a little pry bar and push the pad up away from the center of the rotor( create as much space as you can between the tabs and the caliper). Have your helper push on the pedal hard to hold the pad against the rotor. While they hold the pedal down take a big flat punch and hammer and hit the tabs till they hit the caliper. This guarantees the pad is held in there tight to prevent squealing. Also ad a little film of anti squeal to the back sides of the pads and let it set up a bit before installing (20 min)
