Front Suspension ID Help

I have a new toy ,'68 stepside ,and want to lower it a little more than it is now. It has beend changed to 5 lug disc. How do I ID what suspension that they used? The young guy I got it from didn't know the history on it. I would like to put 2.5" drop spindleson the front but I don't know what year to buy.

Re: Front Suspension ID Help

Is it the rubber bushining type or the steel shaft type? The rubber bushing type is 73 and +
The steel shaft ones are 71-72

Re: Front Suspension ID Help

Do you mean the shaft at the end of the control arm. One of the p.o.s before me did the same thing to my 68. Didnt mean to hijack but inquiring minds like to know.

Re: Front Suspension ID Help

If you look at the 71-72, vs the 73 + , the difference is in the taper on the upper balljoints, & the outer tierod ends. IMO, I would go 73-up on the drop spindles, as they are cheaper. the lower ball joints are the same 71-87, so you just need to watch the taper on the top hole & the outer tie rod hole & replace the pcs as needed. Best of luck.... L
