? on rust damage

I have two swb bed sides that are very straight and I would be hard pressed to find smoother sides. The rust problem is on the inside lip where the bed meets the floor. Has anyone ever ran across this problem.? What would be the best way to fix this? Do they make any patch panels.

I live in an area where I can find SWB occasionally, but they are usually not as straight as these. I know nothing about body work and usually take my body guy rustfree metal. So I am wondering if this would be an easy fix or should I look for rust free sides…….Thanks Jason

That would actually be relatively easy to repair. If you have access to a metal bending brake and welding equipment. No patch panels are available for that area.

Looks like damage from corosian from like fertilizer or something. Is this from your batch from the field? Alot of the farm trucks out here are ate up from fertilizer. And I second sweet 72 get a metal brake and make and weld in new panels or salvage an edge from a junk bed side.

I bet you are right about that fertilizer idea. The sides were too nice for the floor to be so far gone. The floor was rusted more than anything I have ever seen, at least from around here. It looked as though some one had done a lot welding or something in the bed, but I bet your right that it was some chemical that made it rust so bad.

Re: ? on rust damage

I am in Lubbock. . Thanks for the offer. I do have several long beds, so I guess I'll take a couple extra sides in and let the body man deal with it. Sounds like it might be a somewhat simple job for a good body guy.
