Engine code ID

Ok, after searching for 20 minutes so I wouldn't have to ask this question here is the question.
Code stamped on the pad at the front of the engine is V0517CGC, what is it and if there is a thread on this where is it.
Thanks

Re: Engine code ID

V = Flint Michigan Plant
05= May
17= 17th day
CGC= 1971 350 tur hydro - 245 2 El Camino
1971 350 std trns,pol/taxi 245 2 full size

Most likely the it's the second suffix code.

Here's the links:

Re: Engine code ID

Thanks Howard, this was suposed to be the original engine in the truck I just bought, guess it's the right year anyway. The question about the trucks coming with a 350 2bbl from the factory is still not answered since this is apparently not the original engine.

Re: Engine code ID

Thanks Dave,
Would this not be a good thing to have in the faq section?

If it was original engine code would start with a "T"--cars are "C"

Re: Engine code ID

I have 2 - 292 L6 motors, if you could run the dress code numbers for me, I'd appreciate it:
Out of a '67 K/20: F0626UH
Came in my '68 C/10 Stepside: F0627XAE
Thanks.

Ok ok a little unclear--if engine came in a truck the code will began with a "T" such as tch, tgj, etc. If it came in a car the code begins with a "C".
