Rustoration of my '71 Suburban
Hello all,
Im an European (the Netherlands) Suburban owner. I bought the burb obout 1.5 years ago in reasonable driver shape with some rust, a worn out interior and with a crack in the windscreen. To keep the burb "road legal" according to the dutch laws I had to swap the windscreen. After a few months of surfing on the net I found a used one near by. When I took the old windscreen out a piece of paint came of also. Looking a bit more carefull I saw more rust than I was hoping for. So I decided to start to restore the windscreen section. HERE are some pictures of my work. As you can see more weak spots came up. So thats what I'm dooing this winter So Santa.. |

I try to make the best of it!! The worst thing is, overhere there are almost no donors. Its a rare car overhere. So... whats missing or rusted... I have 2 make by myself. Although the A pillar was a donor. Bas |

You are the man, very good rusrto-work!
Was your Burb originaly built for the export market, if so whats different on it? What kind of parts are you needing? Or is it that even small parts are not worth the cost of shipping. |

Re: Rustoration of my '71 Suburban
Burb 71,
The Suburban is imported from the states in 2001. The parts I needed were the A pillar and the window frame. I have done them right now. Sheet metal like rockerpanels.. can be ordered in de us and some shops over here sells them on demand. But the nice gimics like the clear parking lights fi. beeing sold in the us but not by a shop that is willing to ship overseas So the worst part is the abcense of donor suburbans in a wreckyard over here. But is someone here is interrested in parts for Alfa romeos, my other love on wheels, and in need of parts... Maybee i can help in change for help from your side with suburban parts... Bas |

Re: Rustoration of my '71 Suburban
Tobasko great job!
It kind of makes me feel guilty about throwing away rusted body parts. What kind of tool are you using to cut out the rusted parts of metal? Thanx Dano

Re: Rustoration of my '71 Suburban
Thanks for all the positive reaktions.
@Dano, If replacement bodyparts were easier to get overhere, I would replace them more easier too. I cut out the rusted parts with a power flex using a 0.8millimeter disc. Bas |

Hi Bas,
I'll be scraping a 68 GMC burb soon. If you need any patch panels your welcome to them, if they can be shipped. Harry |
