Engine Suffix code U5?
I've got V0728U5 stamped on the block, in front of the passenger side head. I've searched the links below, and don't see anything like that. What does U5 mean?

It should be all letters for the suffix. They used 2 letters until 69 and in 70, started using 3 letters. Look closely at that second digit. Also, car engines started with a "C" and trucks with a "T" starting with 1970. An exception is "CE". That meant an engine that was bought over the counter from a dealership. I'm sure there are more exceptions as this is GM afterall. Any more info anybody?

It could be that it was mis stamped. Ever here the old saying mind your ps and qs it was started buy type setters.
Can you get the cast # off the block and heads?

Casting number on the back of the block is 8970020. I'll pull one of the valve covers tomorrow and get the head number if this doesn't identify it.
