Its an Original owner Deal that has BEEn sitting up runs pretty rough etc. I WOuld like to put 4 Wheel Disc' Brakes on it ,As well redo all suspension bushings etc. Does any one offer a 4 wheel disc kit? Also Does South Side Machine or anyone else offer any type of Traction Bar for this sett-up. ONe ? would be,can the rear axle ratio be determined using the vin #,,,Thanks and this site is really Cool.

Only sure way to tell rear ratio is pull the cover. Welcome to the board from South Mississippi!

Welcome. I agree on pulling the diff cover - not a bad idea to change the fluid and while doing that you can figure out the gear ratio.

Re: New to Site and New to 67-72 GM truck upgrades.
Typically the BB trucks had 3.07 ratio in a 1/2 ton and 3.54 ratio in a 3/4 ton. Your original glove box sticker would identify if there was an optional ratio ordered.
Welcome.

Re: New to Site and New to 67-72 GM truck upgrades.
should be a 3.54 or a 3.07 IIRC... .an oil chainge is a good idea though.
I would recomend a front wheelo disk conversion, and just fixing up the read drums, unless you are just going for the bling factor... rear disks won't do squat for you in the back of a pick up... that's why GM went back to drums on the new ones. The VIN won't tell you anything like that ratio or engine/tranny...won't tell you any options at all really. |

Re: New to Site and New to 67-72 GM truck upgrades.
Welcome and congrats on winning the auction.
If you are looking for 4 wheel discs go back to eBay @ http://myworld.ebay.com/classicperformanceproducts/ I have been looking over CPP's stuff lately and think I will probably use them. Longhorn's comment about discs on rear not really being effective make sense though and I may just go with discs on the front in order to use a lowering spindle. There's a lot of good info here - well worth your support. |

Re: New to Site and New to 67-72 GM truck upgrades.
Well I appreciate the welcome,On this truck any option it has jumps out at you in about the first 3 seconds, compared to todays qwazi-motto trucks.Ive always wanted one of these. But Didnt realize they arent fat boy friendly,at 6'2" 325 there is a lot of friction between the gut and the school bus steering wheel.I'm kinda stuck at what to do with it. I'd Like to repaint it simular to a factory 2 tone,Maybe Pine Green and White or Red and White, unsure. Being a Drag Racer at heart I think it would be Neat to Go ahead and Get a Shaffirof 540 BBC crate motor and 4500 converter ,put a spool in it with 4.11-4.30 gears and some 10" slicks with the Hub Caps and a single 5" exhaust out behind the rear tire, and drive it out to the track and run some mid 10's and go home...But when I bought it I wanted a cool old truck to pull my new champion bass boat...Maybe stock restored with a rv cam converter set up..anyway The truck is neat to me. I'll try and add some pics.

Re: New to Site and New to 67-72 GM truck upgrades.
Thanks for the link to the Steering wheel fix,as well as the compliments. I guess what I'm going to do is go with the mint restored southern redneck look,Factory ride hight,Get it painted,Disc brakes, and order a crate 502,Install a posi and 3.55 gears. 31' bfg all terrains or simular, stick with boat pulling. Is there a thread that has pictures submitted of everybodies trucks just to get some Idea's? Also Does anyone offer a power window kit for these trucks? Sorry about the multitude of Questions.

Re: New to Site and New to 67-72 GM truck upgrades.
Actually..... there is a code stamped on the passenger side tubing of the rear axle and you can determine the ratio from that.
Although I'd recommend the new seal and fluid as well, so might as well check while you're in there. Sounds like it will be a cool truck when done. Here's a great thread on a one piece power window install. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...t=power+window

I haven't seen that particular emblem before either. I have seen the GMC Sierra Grande V-EIGHT emblem though.

Re: New to Site and New to 67-72 GM truck upgrades.
If someone could tell me how to post a link to the ebay page ,which I have saved on my ebay,You could read about it and help me sort out whats and whats not,it was promoted as a somewhat rare Z84 sport truck(Whatever That Is) Also just above door handles is a chrome old logo about 4" inches long that says Custom. I Basically bought the truck because it was straight had minor rust problems, and was big block with AC.
