4 door 72 how many?
Saw a 4door 72 on craigslist, how many of these were made? Says 25 for railroad.

I looked at one a lot like that in Kennesaw Ga. for another BB member about 3 years ago.It was pretty rough.The interior was from a later model 'Burb and the doors,ect were pretty badly rusted.Also the engine was not original and the wiring was like spagetti under the hood.IIRC it was 2wd though.Most are in rough shape since they were used for work trucks and whoever worked for the company that owned it drove it(er beat it).The window tint and the shot of the interior sure look like the one I looked at.Maybe it was a 4X4.....It's been a while.

I saw a red and white 1/2 ton 2wd on ebay a couple of weeks ago. It was in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area.

Here is a pic I saved on my computer back on dec 5th 2002 of what looks to be the same truck for sale. Sorry about quality but it was the only one I saved of it. Looks to be the same or at least an identical truck to me

Built by NAPCO & some other custom-body modifier-builders that built step-vans & utility bodies, I think. Modified extended stock cab & chassis. Back doors were the same as the front. My guess would be: Not sold thru dealers, probably, other than to custom fleet-type orders.
Wabash Railroad - Norfork & Western (at that time) in my home town in Missouri which was a town that was a switch yard hub, repair terminal, roundhouse, train crew home-base, had several of these, used to carry train crews to the trains in bad weather, etc. Union rules were something like that when your shift & overtime time hours were maxed-out, the train had to stop wherever it was, and the next crew was brought to the train, instead of vice-versa. (No wonder the railroads went broke & died out). The Wabash fleet had some of them that I remember were also used by section crew (track repairmen) & signalmen rigs that had the small steel "rail wheels" which hand-cranked-down front & rear (inside the way-extended out bumpers) to run on the train rail tracks, with front wheels/tires picked up off the track about 2-3 inches, and the rear tires' rubber riding down on top the rail for drive power. They used those as first-responder rigs to get tools & multiple people out to wrecks, repair sites, etc, where there was no good nearby road access. Combo rig: Drive 'em in the brush, drive 'em on the street, or drive 'em on the rails. On the rails: Mash on the gas & sit back in the seat. No need to steer. What an unusual street-ride one of those would be. Wonder what ever happened to all them ??? I know they had several......... |
