buddy buckets in a j/y

i think i found a set of buddy buckets in a junkyard a few miles from me. they are in a pre 5 lug GMC short step. this truck also has an external spare tire option thing. i didn't take my camera with me this time. i'm gonna go back tomorrow to take pics. what do these normally go for? and the fender? i think it would be nice for my '72. i went looking for a 3 speed column shifter. alas they were all gone. so i'll see about these other parts, too.

Re: buddy buckets in a j/y

what do these things normally go for like this? oh yeah random question can the later van sidemarker lights be used on a 67-72. i saw a set on a "beauville" chevy van that were in decent shape. they look like the "deluxe" sidemarker lights

The side markers on the van are the same part # as the trucks. I would grab the seats for sure.

I just saw what looks like a nice set on eBay. Maybe this will give you a vague idea.

Re: buddy buckets in a j/y

hold on a bit and i'll get some pics up. i had to drive my '72 with only 2nd and 3rd. sadly, i have yet to come across a single shift lever for a 3 speed. go figure.

ok, here are a few.

the back side

the "console"?

there are a few 'oddities' on the truck i got these out of. like a sunroof.

and this

i've never come across this before, can someone tell me what RPO that is? i know it's for a spare tire. and does it have anything to do with the fact it's a leaf spring truck? and thanks for letting me post. merry christmas everybody.

Re: buddy buckets in a j/y

You scored big time for $60. I didn't notice if it was there but make sure you get the piece on the rear cab wall that protects the sending unit.

Didn't we just see a set of these seats with a very similar upholstry pattern? I think somebody posted pictures in the last couple of weeks.

Re: buddy buckets in a j/y

i didn't find anything but just the seats themselves. i know almost nothing about these things. i did find a quarter in them when i got them off the truck though. i thought that was kinda cool. what keeps the middle seat back, off the gas tank sending unit?

Re: buddy buckets in a j/y

On the spare tire cutout fender: about half the stepside owners like 'em, & about half don't. Sort of a love/hate thing, usually.

Guess which group I vote with.

Be sure & get the tire mounting bracket piecess if they're laying in the bed or on the ground nearby. Those are harder to find than the fenders are. Fender & bracketry will be good trading material, if nothing else.

Nice score (steal of the Century) on the buddy-bucket set. The chrome trim
pieces on the seatbacks on those make me think: "Dodge van," rather than original GM. Kissin-cousins, seat-wise, and they can easily be made into GM clones that are hard to tell the difference-in.

Re: buddy buckets in a j/y

I saw a set of Buddy Buckets for a 67-72 at a swap meet two years ago. They were in worse shape than those, the padding was gone but the springs were mostly there. It was (I think) at Moultrie Ga. swapmeet. They had a asking price of $700.00.I'm not saying they were worth that but if someone wanted them badly enough.....

Re: buddy buckets in a j/y

I have a 3spd column with rubber dash boot, intermediate shaft and all that other crap, original steering wheel also. 3-on-tree. I just replaced mine with an aftermarket column and steering wheel.

Re: buddy buckets in a j/y

I tend to agree with others that these are most likely Dodge seats, however they are pretty much identical to the original b uddy buckets.. Great score

Thumbs up Re: buddy buckets in a j/y

those are dodge seats, buy new foam and upholstry for chevy seats and modify the mounting brackets and use them, dodge and chevy buddy buckets were both made by bostrom. the dodge version is not worth near as much as oem chevy ones but you did ok at 60 bucks, around here they run as much as 100 bucks for decent ones out of dodges. pick-n-pull charged me 75 for the last set i bought but they were in nearly perfect condition.

Re: buddy buckets in a j/y

i'm not even sure i'm gonna use them. they may end up as a chair or shelf in the garage. my bench seat is perfect in condition. these require much work. i just wanted an arm rest for the right side, and maybe get a little more sporty while i was at it. thanks guys, sorry for the let down.
