Headers... HELP - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Need some help figuring out what kinda headers to put on my truck. i have a 72 Chevy long wheel base with a 350ci im usin bullet mufflers have headers on it right now but not the best lol i want to put something nice on there for kinda cheap i found some hookers for like 166.00 on jegs any ideas?

I have a 72 C-20 and ordered these Doug Thorley Headers from Summit.

They arrive tomorrow and I should have them installed by Thursday. I can give you an initial review once their on. I heard they are supposed to be one of the better ones. Thicker flange and 14 gauge rather than 16 gauge.

But we will see I guess.

I have the Hooker Comps on my truck. No leaks, and they fit great. I was impressed with the ground clearance also. They do not hang low like some of the others out there (the flotechs that I took off. They are tucked up in the frame pretty nicely. They also have thicker flanges than most of the cheapies out there. I thought about the Thorley's too, awesome looking headers with nothing but goood reviews. Maybe when I get farther along in my project. But for now, and maybe indefinately, the Hookers are working ust fine. Just sandblast them put some good paint on before you install. The factory paint won't last until the engine warms up. Of course most any factory painted header wil act the same way. From what I gather the onlt real solution to that is ceramic coated headers, which will drive your cost up significantly.

I also have a '72 lwb and the Hooker comps are a awesome bang for the buck

I have same question eng is from 88 surb and heads are vortec, truck is 72 lwb, any suggestions??

I agree, if you're not too concerned about the looks, Hooker Comps are awesome. The ones on my daily driven 4x4 looked good for a few years. Ten years later they look like crap, but never have leaked.
