tranny 700r4 to 2004r ??

i have a 67 c10 with a L 118 327 corvette 300hp motor and wanting to put a 2004r i have out of my old 1987 grand national and a 700r4 out of a 1992 hipo cop car. The 2004r has the universal bellhousing so it will mount up, But my ? is wants better???

I was looking at doing the same thing myself and all the tranny shops around told me the 700R4 was the better more dependable tranny. Hope that helps

Well i put the 2004r in to it last night and it was the easiest change over the 2004r looks the same as the th350 the only thing i had to do was hookup my tv cable ->(throttle valve cable) and its alive LOL.
No doubt the 700r4 is better but you have to do some mods to get it in there.
im just afraid my stock 2004r will not hold up because i remember now after i put it in second gear would slip alittle till it went in to third gear cause it came out of a grand national turbo charged car and it did it when i drive it 6 years about so i hope it holds up

The 200R4 was only built to handle a peak 250HP I thought, and the 700R4 was rated higher. I am pretty sure Chevy never put the 200R4 behind anything larger then the 305.

Unless it was built up, I would say the 200R4 is borderline to handle 300HP. That is based on information I used to know but have since forgotten...

they both have real strong points, and they both have real weak points.
12 reasons of one, and a dozen reasons for the other.

The Buick Grand National Had over 300 HP with 3.8 IHI turbo charged v6.
The 2004r is easier to change out b/c the TH 350 and 2004R are the same size and length.. Now with some 700R4 you would have to do some mods to make it bolt up right like some tail shafts are longer then the TH350..

If your building a Cruiser and don't hammer the gas alot a 2004R is the way to go, But if your looking for Street Racing get a beefed up 700R4, But if your really in two Hitting That Gas Pedal Serious Racing get a th350 or 400 Turbo
In other words Its Gas Saving Over HorsePower.
If you get a 2004R make sure you Get A 85-87 2004R From a Monte Carlo SS or Regal Because the 1979-85 Were Built With Bugs Like weak Parts.
