duallies on a fleet side

anybody ever put dually tires and wheels on a 1 ton or 3/4 ton fleetside? Just wondering what it looked like and if it benefited anything. Any pics?

Here's some. The main benifet I think is the stability while towing.

Here is a 68 brush fire truck that was for sale on ebay this week. I wonder if this was a conversion from the fire truck outfitter or the fenders came from GM?

Those dually fenders appear to be 73-87 body style.

So are those just 3/4 ton axles with dualy wheels? I used to know a guy that converted his. I don't know if he had a dually axle or just added the spacers. He narrowed 67-72 step side fenders, welded tabs on the inside and bolted them on. It looked great. He is from Watertown, SD. He sold the truck a few years ago. By the time I knew it was for sale it was sold. I wish it was mine now.

Re: duallies on a fleet side

Anyone out there know what rear end is used for this type of conversion? I want to do the same thing by tubbing the bed instead of adding step side fenders like a lot of them I have seen.

What width and make rear end will give me this look?
Anyone know?????

Who has or makes the rear fender flare pictured also?

I'm pretty sure that someone said a Box truck rear end like a Gruman (SP?) truck.

Re: duallies on a fleet side

back from the dead.

so my new project is a 3/4t flat bed that i am converting to dually and am going to use the skinny 14b to keep the tires well under the bed.

the few questions i have are

1 of the dualy factory trucks, did they use the trailing arm suspension or just leafs?

2 what is the ubolt center line on a trailing arm axle[i dont have my truck in hand yet]

3 because the axle tubes are bigger in diam than the 12b, would the ublot be able to go around the tube and throught the 3/4t trailing arm or are there different arms with wider ubolt centers for bigger axle tubes?

Re: duallies on a fleet side

Originally the dually trucks from this era were cab and chassis trucks. And I think they were only available as a 1 ton. Therefore, no trailing arm suspension for 1 ton trucks. Now if you built a 3/4 ton trailing arm dually, that'd be pretty cool and I bet it would ride pretty good.

Re: duallies on a fleet side

all you have to do is use a p30 bread van 14 bolt or dana 70 rear axle. i,d use a 14 bolt as there is alot more axle ratios available

Re: duallies on a fleet side

I put a 1986 P-30 dually axle in my 68 , it bolted right in even the driveshaft fit. I had to move the lower shock brackets and change the parking brake cables but that was minor.

Re: duallies on a fleet side

My truck has the stock main stack with an extra leaf and a Rancho add-a leaf = 8 primary leaves + 5 leaf stock overload stack. The truck rides and hauls really well .

That truck isn't factory is it??? That looks like a longhorn bed, right? I didnt know they made a longhorn dually. Gee willy wonkers! OH yeah, what kinda rear end you got in that thing? Are those snow tires? Does it get good gas mileage? I know where you can get an OE '68 4bbl intake (fresh paint) and rochester Q-jet and some SWEET aluminum valve covers for it. Let me know if you're interested!

Re: duallies on a fleet side

There is a factory dually fleetside at the LKQ junkyard in St.Pete Florida. It is a 70 with a 68 front clip. I saw it a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty much complete.
