Re: How to tell the difference...

if its a bb intake you'll know mainly because of its size.

bb intakes are quite a bit bigger(length and width) than the sb intakes and the are no where near interchangeable

do you have a sb in your truck or sitting in the garage? set the intake on it or next to it and see if it looks close.

Re: How to tell the difference...

I believe BBC manifolds have extra bolts.
Do a search on ebay for both and compare the pics.

Re: How to tell the difference...

small block intakes have all the bolt holes close to inline.
Big blocks have 2 bolts on each side clearly out of line. those 2 sit dead center above & sort of between 2 ports.

Re: How to tell the difference...

Look for the fitting that comes strait out the front for the short 90 deg. hoze. Small blocks don't have that.

Re: How to tell the difference...

SBC...It dosen't have the fitting coming "strait" out the front.
Coolant passages are blocked off in the back. Its a single plane...I wouldn't use it unless you have a small block thats gonna turn 6000rpm or more. Your gonna loose a lot of low end. What are the motor specks that you are putting it on?

Re: How to tell the difference...

Yes, it will "work" but like he said the volume of air that intake is designed to flow if for higher reving 350's or larger cubic inch strokers etc that need a large volume of air. On a single plain intake like that one, there is an extreme loss of velocity due to its larger plenum/runner size, the loss of velocity causes a loss of low end low RPM torque. your stock 350 would have no responsiveness at all, and unless you have a bottom end that can handle 6500 RPM's it wont make any useable horsepower either.

hope that helps.

Joe

You'll have no trouble trading it off for a more usable piece.

Re: How to tell the difference...

The intake you have is more expensive and better for performance@high rpms but if you dont have someting to use it on its worthless A performer eps(if running a squarebore carb) will net a quite noticable power gain over stock intakes..........Spacer plates also help some what 1 inch with preformer eps gives a mild yet noticable lope (sounds awesome)at idle even with a stock camshaft.
