Anyone gone to the Borgeson Steering shaft? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am being very particular with my burb and am not settling on how it handles and drives. I totally fixed my body roll problem with the front swaybar and Bilsteins.

So, my next little pet peave is the steering; I have dual stabilizers, a new rag joint, the weld in steering box kit, and the suspension and steering components are in good shape. There is a bit of wander in the steering wheel that I want gone. I don't know if I am being unrealistic. I know it won't feel like a rack and pinion setup, or even like a stock truck right off of the assembly line.

I called BDS suspension and a few local shops and the consensus is that the superior to stock Borgeson shaft will fix my issue.

I just wanted to put a feeler out and see if anyone has bolted on the shaft and what the outcome was.

Heck ya! The 73-87 4x4s are notorious for cracking the frame around the steering box mounts. This is highly accentuated by oversize tires.

Warrior products makes a 2 piece weld in kit to strengthen that very weak area of the frame.

I'd heard of a cracked frame right around the steering box, but I didn't realize it was common enough to have it's own kit made to correct it.

I had a lot of slop in my old steering shaft on my 77.
It was this part circled in red that was bad.

After being unable to find one at the salvage yard any better than the one I had, I bought a Borgeson.
It's far superior to the stock unit.

That is also what is bad on mine (aside from having put the wheel on about 15 or 20 degrees off of center when replacing the column). Are there any other alternatives as to fixing that very UGLY joint system that GM uses?
