Name of part on Front Suspension

Hey Everyone,

Any one know what the middle link that the tie rods/pitman/idler arm bolt to? I need the name so I can ask for one and help with a source to get one as mine is very bent and rubbing against the K member. No wonder the steering was so difficult.

Thanks!

I thought that is what it was called, but Brothers Truck seems to think a drag link is the sleeve for the tie rods by the picture they are showing, so I thought I'd ask.

I think you are talking about the tie rod. The idler and pitman arm connect to the ends and the tie rod ends are connected to it inboard a few inches from each end. I think a drag link would go from a pitman arm to a steering arm.

Re: Name of part on Front Suspension

Heres a generic pic of a truck front suspension, i'm thinking your looking for the center link.
What year and model is your truck? I have an old moog catalog in the garage. I have used it a few times over the years, the part #'s dont seem to change, but some have been discontinued.

x2 Center link

The idler arm supports the center link pn the passenger side, the pitman arm transmits the steering input to the center link and the center link ties the drivers side and passenger side inner tie rod ends together...

Speaking of center links, who sells new ones? I have all new front end components I picked up at Napa but they had no listing for a center link...

Re: Name of part on Front Suspension

Most auto parts places consider it a centerlink. Some do refer to it as a drag link. The part between the tie rods ij the tie rod adjusting sleeve.

Are you serious? My truck has a complete drop from Early Classics and I'm replacing all the moving parts with the MOOG kit that came with the truck. This is how I found out about the bent center link (bought the truck and it was towed as it wasn't running). I also have a new power steering box and pump that I was going to install.

So I have to find a drag link from a power steering equipped C10? Anyone know if interchanges for this part?

Re: Name of part on Front Suspension

Im going to throw a question in here...hopefully it will help in the end.

I have a '73 Blazer and from what I understand the front suspension is pretty much the same as the '72 trucks right? Maybe the inner tie rod hole on the center link is different? I have seen the center link for sale in the LMC catalog for the '73 and up but not for the '72 and down. So maybe if you got the '73 center link and inner tie rods (with adapting tie rod sleeve) it may work?

Whatnow123 Jerry said disc and drum were different, not power or no power.I imagine it has to do with the tie rod end size.

Re: Name of part on Front Suspension

I looked and here is the info I found.
1968Chevrolet Truck Chassis Service Manual
They call it a Steering connecting rod. They tell how to replace it but not any part#'s or anything.
Haynes Chevrolet and GMCPick-Ups 1967 thru 1987
Steering linkage relay rod (This is from the description of removing the crossmember[the only reference I could find])
My Chevrolet Pickup parts interchange manual 1967-1978 doesn't adress the part at all.

Re: Name of part on Front Suspension

Try PST Suspension. They are very good with front end parts and reasonably priced too. By the way, ask for a center link anywhere and they will know what you want.
