Replacement vs. Find&Fix
QUESTION FOR THOSE WHO KNOW--
Is it best to search the world looking for short fleet bed / parts and have them repaired or spend the extra buck and buy replacement parts...When it comes to end result will I be spending more to buy and fix the bed (I have never done body work...if enough people say "do it yourself..its not hard"..I might try it myself, but I dont have metal working tools) or spend $900 bucks ready to go...Those who have a total replacement bed are you happy? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated Clint |

Re: Replacement vs. Find&Fix
Be careful exactly who you purchase the replacement panels from if you go that route, but I think that It will be more than $900 bucks

Check with the local Vo-tech schools. Some of them will take cars in for repair to teach the students with. Or take a class yourself and use your truck as your project.

Re: Replacement vs. Find&Fix
I build a total reproduction short stepside bed. I'm happy with it. It did cost a pretty penny, though. The actual wood, strips, and hardware would have cost the same regardless. I was not going for a restoration, so much as I just wanted a 69 Stepside look. If I could have found a bed, I would probably have enjoyed working on it and gotten more satisfaction from my work.
