rear disks?
i was wondering if anyone had an idea about do rear disk swap. i'm on a budget as most of us are, so i don't want to do an aftermartet swap. i know i can go the 9in route w/ explorer brakes but i want to keep the 12 bolt and i'm not sure what to do? any advise would be great.

Re: rear disks?
I know CPP makes a kit that has the brackets, etc to swap real easy. I also know a lot of people have been swapping Impala SS brakes. I have the CPP kit and is pretty cake.

Re: rear disks?
Get you the rear calipers off a impala ss (94 to 96 year range or a caprice of the same body style. If you want to run the stock rotors I have a set I will give you if you pay the shipping, they are the same bolt pattern as the five lug trucks. There is a guy on here that makes the brackets to mount to the axle if he has any left. I bought my calipers and baskets off www.car-part.com used and powder coated them and that is what they look like. I am waiting on my brackets to get here so I can install. I hope this helps.

Re: rear disks?
I have the setup from abspowerbrake and it uses cadillac calipers and rotors with an emergency brake. The kit is ok but for me it was not a true bolt on application. I had to grind the spacers and use some shims to get the caliper mounting brackets to be paralell with the rotors. While not very difficult, it was time consuming. You should check out the impala SS brakes thread too.

Re: rear disks?
I went with camaro calipers and impala ss rotors. U sing that setup you can retain the parking brake and 5x5 lug pattern. I have $167 in mine including calipers, brackets, rotors, new pads, and parking brake cabels.

Re: rear disks?
I used 94-96 impala ss rotors and 94-96 camaro calipers. I am still working on the brackets (cut the first ones 1/4" too short)

Re: rear disks?
Thanks for that, might be a stupid Q but why couldn't you use Camaro rotors as well?.

Re: rear disks?
the bolt pattern is wrong. I think it is 5x4.75 or something like that.

Re: rear disks?
I had some Moser Axels made for my 12 Bolt and are 5X4.75, so am I safe to say I could go with the Camaro calipers and rotors on mine. Not meaning to highjack the thread or get people confused. I just could not get the Weld Wheel in the 5x5 bolt pattern so I had new axels made at 5X4.75.

Re: rear disks?
If you are looking for performance gains, spend the money up front. Disks won't do jack in back on an empty pick up. That's why GM went back to drums in back.
If you want bling, then cool, but don't do this expecting to stop any quicker. |
