New guy from Oklahoma 62 short fleet
I am in the process of rebuilding a 62 short fleet. The frame is bare. The cab is on a dolly getting metal repair and replacement. We have rebuilt the 350 (mild). I am hoping to have a really nice clean truck but will not spend a lot on extravagances.
I am at the point of making decisions on the front suspension, steering, and brakes. I would like it to handle well. I am not sure whether to rebuild the stock front or try modifications or replacement of major components. any help would nice. I do have some later model spindles with discs(5 bolt). They do not fit my control arms. I know that 63 and up can accept later model arms but I have torsion bars. Any help? I am also looking for a local junk cab that I can get the roof off of. Mine had a sunroof and also some dents. I am not real confident I can get the right contour on the roof again. This is me and my wife in this 427 cobra. Yes, it is real BUT IT IS NOT MINE! I help a friend and in return he lets me drive this thing. The kid needing a haircut with the mustang is my son. In the future I will only bother you with pertinent truck pics. Thanks, Alan Blankenship |

Welcome to the board. You cab swap out the front crossmember for a 71-87 and the matching control arms to get the disc brakes. They sell adapters to put power steering boxes from the same years on. Just use all the tie rods, center link, ect from the donor for the steering.

Nope. But you can call your local wrecking yard. Or maybe find a cheap parts truck.

Re: New guy from Oklahoma 62 short fleet
Welcome to the board!!
Around where I live, a front clip (IFS) will cost $150-$300 before rebuilding it. To get the best bang for the buck is to try to get a parts trucks, or even from a impound yard for a few hundreds bucks. This way you can grab everything you need for power brakes, power steering, 5 lug rearend, etc. If you do choose to use a new IFS upfront, you will need the idler arm, steering box, steering linkage, IFS saddle, upper & lower "A" arms, spindles. TO mount the newer steering box you need to use an adapter that REZ sells to properly mount the steering box to teh frame rail. David
