Quick ? Fuel line - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Yesterday I notice a real strong gas smell in my garage so I looked around the truck and there was a puddle of gas in the front of the truck "1972 / 350 " I looked under it and could see it dripping from the fuel pump. So I went under it and took the clamp and pushed it up closer to the fuel pump and it stopped. Now my ? Is. Should I replace the rubber hose part of the fuel line. It looks original? How long is it. Will I need to drain the tank. Thank for your help.

i would change the hose and the clamps, just to be safe. Hate to hear about another one burning down

don't have a ruler to measure the length?? if it looks old and cracked replace it while your under the truck go under the cab towards the back theres a piece of rubber hose where the line comes out of the cab floor that is probabbly just as bad shape in fact it's a good idea to replace any and all rubber hoses that look to be 35years old

How quick RU? I like to drain the tank myself since I always wind up not being able to get fuel line on or something and it gets drained anyway.At least if I drain it first I get to decide where it puddles.Not under my back or in my ear.Just my experience.

i second that, from experence it's way better to drain it. i guess that's why hindsight is 20/20.lol

I'll tell you what I do, but remember, I'm not to 'mart.
I put a towel on the rubber hose just below the tank and clamp my vice grips to it,

then work on the fuel pump. Make sure that the light isn't laying on the floor close by.
