Lowered Truck Problems

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem with their lowered trucks. My '69 C10 is lowered 2" Front & 3" Rear with drop coil springs. I have 1.50" wheel adapters on the rear axle to push the rear tires (235/75/R16 all around) out away from the inner fender. The problem I have is that occasionally (on pot holes, bumps in road, etc.) it feels like the shocks are bottoming out. I replaced my shocks a year ago, front & rear, with new ones. Do I maybe need some type of drop shocks for lowered trucks? Any help would be appreciated.

do you feel it hitting in the rear more? check to see if the axle is hitting the bump stops. i'd start with that, if thats the case, put a low profile stop in or just remove them

Hmm, 3" in rear you shouldn't need to trim your bumpstop. How much space do you have between the axle and the bumpstop at static height?

i have 5" drop spring in the back and 275/60r15 tires with no spacer without any tire rub

on the front i have a 2.5 dropped spindle with one coil cut on the stock spring with 245/60r15 tires

i have no problems of tire rubbing or bottoming out

From what I noticed last year before I parked my truck for the winter, the rear end seemed ok, it was hitting more in the front. Like I said, it seemed like the travel on the shocks was reduced significantly. Maybe it's just me... I don't know.

with your truck sitting at ride height with weight on the wheels measure(ruler) the distance from a-arm to bump stop then measure distance of exposed rod on shock absorber if it isnt greater than the bump stop +measurment you need different shocks and or mounts

But definitely not needed for a 3" spring drop.

Also, the wheel spacers are a red herring.

you might have wheels with a different backspacing than the ones he is using thats the big trick in getting the right wheels .
he could mount less wide tires so to sidewhalls tug in from the rim , that might solve it too

i got a job again and having fun at it too

idea's for the trucks and the order of things to do are taking shape and get closer to being realized , a few more months and i be able to start building for real

i complete 2 of the trucks intoo running fashion one custom and one basicly stock the thirth will be sacrificed for parts

i think the rear still could come down another 1-2 inches
