Vent window lock?

Have any of you ever made a lock or something to keep the vent window from being open.Somebody got in to my 72 while I was on vac. They did not take anything but its just the thought of how easy they got in.

Re: Veny window lock?

I'm pretty sure you could swap to the later style latch....

My '81 C-10 had a button you had to push in order to turn the latch.
They look different, but i'm pretty sure they would work.

Re: Veny window lock?

how do they open it?
Honestly, my train of thought has always bee, if you lock it, then they'll remove a window getting in, and normally the only tool they use is a hammer.
The local meth heads have prooven this time and time again.

Re: Veny window lock?

After my g/f locked the keys in my 74, I learned I could put a pocketknife blade through the rubber and lift the latch. A piece of sheet metal glued between the rubber and the vent channel would stop that.

Re: Veny window lock?

I'm not sure how they opened it.When I came back from vac my truck was unlocked. They had wrap a string around the vent handle. They slipped it in between the rubber around the vent window. You just pulled on the string and the lock would open.If you lock the door on these trucks can you unlock it by pulling up the inside door handle?I think it was kids cause they did not take anything.

I agree. You invent ways of stopping thieves who don't want to break your stuff (noise)to steal from you, they invent more destructive ways of still stealing from you.

I also gave up on making my stereos theft proof. The last rig I did that on, I would up with a destroyed dash, and a ruined $400 CD player. I don't think the $400 was worth having my dash ruined.

I think that LMC carries a kit that replaces the normal vent window handles with ones that have a lock. I have not used or seen them but you may want to check them out...

good luck.

Re: Veny window lock?

the doors don't unlock with the inside handle... they probably reached in, rolled the window down and unlocked it that way.
