67-68 parking brake adustment?

What is the adjustment procedure for the 67-68 hand lever style parking brake? Seems like it should be different than the 69-72 foot lever, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?????

The adjustment is at the end of the front cable - down by the transmission crossmember.

Here is the procedure as stated in the service manual:

1. Jack up both rear wheels.
2. Apply parking brake 4 notches from fully released position.
3. Loosen equalizer check nut (lock nut on the end of the cable) and tighten the adjusting nut until a moderate drag is felt when the rear wheels are rotated.
4. Tighten the check nut (lock nut) securely.
5. Fully release parking brake and rotate the rear wheels. No drag should be present.

I see only 1 fault with this, the shoes inside the drums should be adjusted first.

I looked at the manual again and in the paragraph above the procedure it states that adjustment can only be accomplished when the service brakes are in adjustment.... Good catch kwmech. Thanks for saving me.....

Re: 67-68 parking brake adustment?

Thanks LockDoc!!!!! That was just what I was looking for.

Getting the parking brakes working will totally complete the brake rebuild on my hybrid 67/70 .
