Subwoofer Box for under bench seat

What do you guys think of this box? It's a little pricey at $190.

But the dimensions seem to be within spec for under a bench. i removed the cable from under the seat to make more room.

Here are the dimensions:

* 10" Dual Sealed
* Chevy Avalanche 01-04
* Height: 7 1/2"
* Depth: 14"
* Top Mounting Depth: 5"
* Bottom Mounting Depth: 6 1/2"
* Width: 45"

* Volume: 0.5 cu. ft. Per Chamber
* 5/8" MDF Construction
ACHV210 - Ground Shaker A CHV 210 10" Dual Sealed

Anyone see any problems on why it may not fit?

Thanks,

Chad

Re: Subwoofer Box for under bench seat

Why don't you fab a box out of cardboard 7" X 14" X 45" and see how well it fits your truck?

If the cardboard box fits, then you know that finished box would clear.

If the box needs cut to clear obstructions, cut and trim the cardboard. When it fits to your liking, use the cardboard as a template to fab the final box out of MDX or plywood.

But does that $190 put those 5 sheets together in a properly sized & constructed speaker box w/the correct info for selecting the right speaker components? Not everyone is a stereo guru & a box that fits under the seat for less than $200 is not a bad deal.

Like was mentioned.... slap together a cardboard box w/similar dimensions & test fit to get your answer. I know I've installed some of those pre-fabbed boxes for 8" subs (the ones available @ most stereo retailers) under the bench seat on one of my trucks. All I did was remove the hardware for the seat slider to get them to fit.

Re: Subwoofer Box for under bench seat

I'm with you man, 200.00 for someone else to do it is well worth it, just as long as it fits. This topic, speaker boxes and kick panels and audio set-ups must be the most difficult to get straight and simple answers to than anyother topics on the forum and the so called 'experts' are just not that helpful. IMO. it easier to get step by step help in rebuilding your transmission than sound advice on a suitable audio set-up for your truck. Good luck to you man. That box looks good, hope it works and if it does please let me know.

I don't have a bench anymore, but that looks WAY too tall to fit underneath a stock seat.

i have my own buisness doing custom car and audio and i can tell you that thats to think you can take the thinest lil cheapy walmart truck box that is supposed to go behind the seat and try and put it under it will not work you will have to make ur own lift blocks and lift the seat up a few inches to make any of them fit under the seat

last three subs i bought all came with the correctly needed volumes of air and other than that and a calculator i cant see why it cant be done at home in a garage

Those 'cheapy' WalMart style boxes are what I installed under my stock 67/68 bench seat, 1 under each side. I didn't have to raise the seat any. I just removed the seat sliding cable & hardware.

well, removing the adjuster stuff is one thing I never did when trying to fit stuff under my old bench... that may have been the ticket.

I always kept the seat as far back as possible so removing it didn't hurt anything for my application. I sold those boxes long ago but the next time I see some the same style, I'll get some measurements on them.

Re: Subwoofer Box for under bench seat

Thanks for all the input. I agree with a lot of the comments. Especially the one from Boise.

I wonder though, Lets say I make just the box parts of it. How do you determine cubic feet??

I knew math would be used later in life....should have listened that day, instead of

Please if you do the solution, out it in lamens terms

Thanks,

Chad

P.S. I will be using if 10" subs if that matters. Most likely JL Audio.

That's because a transmission goes together one way. You can have 5 guys rebuilt it, and for it to work, they must have all done it roughly the same.

Car audio is about ad obscure a topic as you can get. You will have people that say "I just tossed a $10 sub lose under the seat and it sounded great!" and other say "You have to spend at least $1000 to get any sound out of an old truck". You do what works for you and you alone. What someone else things sounds good to themselves, may sound like hell to you.

You need to consider your budget, your skills, your taste in music, and how much time you want to invest. Car audio is not "one size fits all". Even if that box fits, do the speakers you want to run work in that style box? Is that enough/too much air volume? Is the a way to mount it once it's in there?

If it were that easy, then it wouldn't be worth doing.

The easiest way to figure box volume is to use an online calculator. You need to use internal measurements minus speaker displacement. Most speakers have a range (min. vs. max volume) and some are designed around sealed or ported only applications. The spec sheet should show the ideal setup and give you surface mount displacement. Normally a sealed box requires less volume and there are a lot of great 10" subs on the market that use less than a foot of space (my Polk Audio DB's took .72 cubic feet sealed per sub).

Re: Subwoofer Box for under bench seat

Well I just lines the entire floor and kick panels with Dynamat Extreme.

I ran out and am waiting on two more boxes to do the inner and outer sides of the doors. Then I will install the new carpet I got from GMCPauls as well as the new door sills. Then comes the pods from Christians Classics and then finally the 4 gauge wire and interconnects.

I will be most likely going with the JL components with the 300/2 amp and the JL sub or subs and the JL 1000/1

I like all types of Rock not rap or hipity hop.

Re: Subwoofer Box for under bench seat

Ok, I'm gonna try to ressurect this thread for my own benefit....

Chadvicki, it's been 2 months...did you buy the Avalanche box and does it fit?

What's a guy to do if he wants a little bit of wallop in a bench seat truck with a gas tank behind the seat?

I know I had a pair of Kicker 8" subs in those "cheap" truck boxes about 15 years ago, and they sounded fine given the parameters, but what's everybody doing these days, and does anybody have pics?

Re: Subwoofer Box for under bench seat

I can draw you a box in SolidEdge if you'd rather build it yourself. I just need the dimensions. Tell me what subs you're getting too, and I'll give it the perfect amount of airspace. I've been drafting and building boxes for 3 years now. ALso, I've NEVER EVER heard one of those cheapy little crap boxes sound good. Your box is supposed to be specific for the sub you're using, not visa versa.

That's why sometimes you must match the sub to properly fit the intended box that fits within your specific space limitations.

No, thats why you buy the sub and build a box to fit your application. I can see buying a specific shallow mount sub to fit within a restricted spot, but you can easily build a box to fit almost any restraint.
